I live in Ontario, CA where the minimum wage was increased from $11.75 to $14 overnight (It was supposed to go to $15 but they scrapped that) and the effects were clearly visible. Many small businesses that were struggling finally closed their doors within a month of the increase. I had a number of vendors that I dealt with at the time and would negotiate bulk rates for certain services such as car related services and had to increase rates by about 10%-15% across the board.
What really was surprising was the exponential growth in large corporations, there are 5 massive amazon warehouses near me that all went up in the last three years, more and more walmarts being built and an increasingly rapid pace and pretty much zero new business that aren't chains or franchises. There is a reason these megacorps push for a $15 minimum wage and that it because they can easily absorb them while small businesses cannot.
