Metamask is the simplest. Various alternative wallets are supported, as is directly connecting to a trezor/ledger without metamask inbetween, but you will miss the GUI.

Staking has very minimal risk so long as you keep your keys secure. Only you can unlock and control your stakes, unlike on a centralized exchange.
