I'll tell you the history. First, BAOman got this >>29162727 logo, by paying someone on Fiverr. Later it turned out that the fiverr guy was a scammer who just took the image off google images. Community members were enlisted to remake the logo, and "Denjin" came up with pic related. Which looks almost exactly like the google images one, except with minute details you can't see at first glance. But enough to avoid copyright, I suppose.
Now denjin is claiming he should be paid millions for his graphic design work. I don't really understand it myself, but hopefully baoman returns to another redesign of the old bao instead of pikachu.

I agree to an extent, and BaoMan has certainly put himself in a tough situation with his haste to replace the logo - I'm sure he realizes that he'll lose face if he backtracks and admits that it needs work. The amount of uproar over this is what surprises me; surely it's not that difficult to source an entirely original and well-made suite of branding graphics when you're offering $20k+? Having an active community is really a double-edged sword for a lot of crypto projects and the average IQ of the user base is only going to trend downwards as we see more adoption.
