If you take advantage of that kind of thing you will develop a bad reputation and no one will give you an inch when you're the one on the back foot and the guy who got screwed will actively be trying to fuck you.

Think about it rationally. Imagine some guy does come in and offer to bribe your 200k or whatever to falsify evidence or mislead a judge or whatever.

You are gambling your entire career and probably jail time for that 200k. Some lawyers will see dollar signs and take it, but every month you read about such people being found out. Accounting rules and regulations in general are extremely strict and it's hard to fiddle the figures too much and not eventually get caught out on an audit.

I would honestly think this sort of thing is more prominent with small time lawyers, not less. A 50k bribe is probably a big deal to a one man band, but in big firms you'd have to pay a fuckload to make it worth it and even then they are more likely to have a lot of people working on the case and much more internal procedures/scrutiny so you're less likely to get away with it.

I dunno, I just personally can't see the benefits of being underhanded. Ultimately if your client loses life goes on for you and it doesn't really matter. You're not goin to gamble it all on one client just because he asked you to.
