That's actually a really good idea. Do you pan or just eyeball it? The government has recently mass installed roadside water drains in the north west (where the gold is), this might actually work really well. They normally block up the exit holes with rocks+boulders but often you can get to them easily. On the other hand we don't have snow, so it's just rain runoff and it's not really creeks that flow into the drains, but heavy heavy rains. It only really picks up the topsoil.
