CMC says that total supply is: "The amount of coins that have been already created, minus any coins that have been burned. It is analogous to the outstanding shares in the stock market."

Why does "burned" tokens count here? They are dead forever right, so why is there any value in them? What am I missing?

OK follow-up question.

CMC reports the total supply of BAKE as "541,531,045". But according to bscscan (and bakeryswap), there are "410,287,146" in a burned / dead.

So, is CMC just wrong? Diluted market cap should not include dead tokens, right?
