I don't know why people are still buying ETH after the news that they are no longer solving gas fees.

It's another speculative asset, just like Bitcoin. Investment firms like Greyscale pour in hunderds of millions of dollars so it'll become the "silver" of bitcoin

What if high fees on a busy decentralized network is unavoidable.

Because it's going to go up in price. Coinbase staking is coming soon, EIP1559 or whatever the fuck it's called is going to incentiveize holding. As far as gas is concerned, eth2 will help even though it's not the main goal. And UNISWAP is reasponsable for something like 80% of gas consumed which will drop dramatically when it moves to layer 2. The fact that gas is still high just shows that the network is being used more than ever. Look at the big picture and you'll see ETH isn't going anywhere despite "muh gas and shiet" You'd be a fool not too at least have a few.

of course it is. this was known as far back as 2015, and that was the entire reason ethereum was launched with the plan of switching to PoS and sharding
the roadmap eventually moved to rollups, because it's a more practical solution with potentially infinite scaling
you've got two choices in crypto
1) set arbitrary values with the hope you've somehow hit the perfect target on all future usecases. this is the bitcoin model (fixed max supply), also a model many alt smart contract platforms and tokens follow. it gives confidence to the average iq speculative investor because "scarcity means number go up", etc. a simple thesis for simple minds, and in that a self-fulfilling prophecy, because most investors are by definition average
2) accept you cannot predict everything, work under best possible assumptions at the moment and always be willing to rechallenge them. this is the model behind most ethereum design choices, from building a turing complete platform, to having an emission policy decreasing towards infinity
some few alt coins also have that philosophy, like kleros for example

those are the two schools of thoughts. investing decisions may vary based on time preference
i.e. "1" projects are more likely to gain market value short term. "2" projects are more likely to survive and deliver a product. but it's worth noting delivering a product doesn't necessarily translate into financial gains, or that "1" coins can reframe their product to match the speculation around it (bitcoin core becoming a store of value)

This shitcoin is is horrible.
There is going to be a mass redistribution of market value out of the top shitcoins into the altcoins. Bitcoin and etherium have super bloated systems.and are kept alive artificially

I was just trying to buy some coin on an eth exchange the other day and the gas fees were over 100$ Lowering the gas limit just makes the transaction fail and it bills you anyway.

You have zkswap (ZKS) and/or Pangolin (PNG). Fees are $0.2 and finality in 2s.
