This is short sighted, a huge amount of bitcoin mining is using geo thermal energy, and as we have already seen over and over the fees are only problematic during bull runs, and even then a large portion of the problems come from exchanges not batching their sends.
Why do you think fees thus far have been lower than they were last bull run, its because coinbase started tx batching, which saves a huge amount of space in each block.
