For me? Making it would be 10M or more. That's what I consider making it. I will be comfortable with 2M and even 1M, but to truly live how I want. It would have to be 10M. People who look at resale value 5-10 years down the line. Its a legitimate factor that people should take into consideration. A shitbox Mazda might be a perfectly fine car, maybe even well featured, with a nice interior at the price point, but in a decade it will be scrap. A 10 year old Subaru still has resale value. Some 10 year old Subaru Foresters still sell for 9-10k.

You should factor in how well a given bran retains its value, how long you plan on keeping the car, and cost of maintenance when considering purchasing a car. Leasing can be a better investment.
