Don't mine on a GPU. An entry level CPU will beat your GPU at mining.
And don't buy hardware just for mining, instead invest and build a nice mid range gaming PC that you upgrade on regular basis and mine on in off hours.

You will get 10-20 times lower hash rates on GPU vs a CPU.

Yeah, you read correctly. GPUs suck and are at a very big disadvantage mining XMR.
RTX 3090 GPU might get 2000 H/s while AMD 3990X gets almost 50.000 H/s and even uses less energy.

Monero mining is done on the CPU. If you read a little bit about how it worked. Especially RandomX providing different algorithms randomly some floating point some integer to throw off ASIC and GPU minng.

I'd probably keep waging, so I don't think I'll be looking for passive income. If defi really is big in the future, I would like to earn some interest on my xmr. But fuck stablecoins tied to fiat. I don't think I'll ever hold more fiat than necessary to pay my monthly bills ever again. If I really end up making it I will move to the middle of fucking nowhere, set up solar panels, and mine. I don't think I would mess with collateral loans because I tend to prefer comfiness over maximum return.
