Why did you quote me? I wasn't even talking to you

>>28898894
From a investment perspective, I saw AVAX as something like a top 3 coin. With ETH either on second of third place.
The thing about AVAX is the way that this issue has been handled from Avalanche Labs part. And that on itself might make the market react (negatively) on a large scale.
Put that with the fact that the largest token unlock will take place next month, I have a feeling there might be a huge drop in price.

>do you think they will just leave this issue unresolved?

You see, the thing is, from AVAX end, it is "resolved". Now the only thing that can (and probably will) keep it up, is the public adoption of the coin.

>>dev's won't dare to fork so instead they decide to hardcode the 'bonus' blocks
The question is, what's the better solution? Hard fork three chains, or soft fork through "bonus blocks"? The result is the same but one of them doesn't require hard forking two unaffected chains. They can't hard delete the blocks, so they went with the next practical solution.
If this ever occurs again, and I fucking hope they learned their lesson, they might resolve this in a smarter way by at least not making it hard coded and allowing a governance protocol to vote on such issues which is simply not possible yet.

Is the current solution a silly hotfix? Absolutely, will it matter in the long run? No, they can still improve on "bonus blocks" as a solution.

>>already patched bug
It literally is patched besides bonus blocks, not sure what you mean. The issue cannot occur again due to proper cross-chain validity checks

>> No.28900549

>>28900286
>Is the current solution a silly hotfix? Absolutely

See, that's the issue. Imagine from everyone holding AVAX right now. If that happened seven times to one user, imagine how many times went underreported. Technically speaking, the whole blockchain has been compromised.

>> No.28900721

Yes. But it failed.
Its a not a safe investment, so I had to sell. Who knows what might happen, since they pushed the issue under the rug.
Giving free coins, instead of forking the network, was a bad decision, technically speaking.

??? It's known this happened to several transactions, including the exact amount which has (or will be) burned by the foundation.

You can literally crosscheck it in the chain explorers, that's kind of the point. The x7 / doublespendanon one is just the most well-known and by far largest one.

It was literally too good to be true. Anybody with any sort of technical background could've told you that it was impossible. And just like clockwork, the moment they went live their house of cards came tumbling down. Turns out, you can't just build a project on idealistic dreams without actual technological feasibility. Yes, I'm just saying the team behind was naive and rather uneducated - the alternative is that they outright lied to people to scam them out of their money. And we can't prove that. Yet.
