i wouldnt say its a scam since it provides an easyer to use api, but still not worth it if the price rises, wich means in order to be usefull it has to remain cheap. its nonsense to invest in this

It's an unexciting indexing service that runs off of erc20 tokens. It's about as cool as a tax accountant that can save you thousands. It's simply a utility that every programmer with half a brain will be using to save money on their projects.

What does it do? It finds data for you so you don't have to set up an expensive server and pay a bunch of money to operate a search. It also speeds up the project enormously.

it's a utility that can be applied to pretty much any dapp using the blockchain and lowers the barrier to entry significantly, i'd be shocked if it didn't find at least some use somewhere

Just a question, not deliberately fudding. How is any of this economically feasible? Do we actually expect any company to invest in all of these tokens including ethereum gas for a working solution to anything? Imagine expending capitol on each database query (graph), each http get request (chainlink), each encryption request (nucypher), plus whatever exorbitant gas fees exist at the time. Any company that requires a blockchain would be much better off creating their own blockchain solution or using a cheaper, faster alternative.

>> No.28876509

>>28876052
this is exactly how most enterprise software works. Time is money so either you pay for someone who has the solution, or try building your own. The latter requires a lot more effort to set up and maintain.

>> No.28876792

>>28876052
The query/get/encryption request fees aren't set in stone, they're determined by the indexers/encryptors/whatever and they compete against each other in a market. If the fees of one indexer are too high, you can just move to another with more competitive prices.
The tradeoff, at least for The Graph, is that between money and time. You have to pay a small fee to make queries, but you also don't have to spend an enormous amount of time and money setting up boilerplate infrastructure, which means you can get up and running much faster. For small ventures looking to move into this space, having a significantly lowered barrier to entry is massive.

You can always tell who has a job in software/tech vs not in grt threads. You can divide the questions into those with careers and those who work in retail or McJobs lol.

What data exists on the blockchain that cannot already be queried?

None. It’s even searchable in linear time, just one pass through the blockchain and you’ll have your answer in a matter of days, or even hours if you spend enough on hardware (remember this task can be parallelized! You can do a map-reduce and become the google of blockchain!)

The only reason The Graph is a thing is because these MTV-generation kids want subsecond results on their queries. Never learned the virtue of patience.
