As always, DYOR, anon. Start with the white paper. Until then, here's a copy/paste from a thread a few days back:

UNION is already well on its way in melding financial instruments with DeFi, as laid out in our whitepaper. This includes credit default swaps (CDS) for measuring event risk and non-linear outcomes — a concept imbued into C-OP and a vital part of calculating downside volatility risk for protection pools underwriting smart contract risk.

The long short of a credit default swap basically means that if you want to lend tokens and you don't think who you're lending to is AAA super trustworthy you could instead lend the money to an insurance provider, unn in this case, and then have them invest into what you originally wanted to and have them take on the risk but at a cost.

So say you loan out a million DAI and can you get a 10% return on that million DAI. Well you can give up one or 2% of that return and sacrifice it to UNN and have them take on the risk. Of course it won't be as cut-and-dry as this because everything with smart contracts is determined algorithmically and they will have their own way of determining what the cost the risk of that credit-default swap is.
