I'm not quite sure if these are exactly the same type. With knock-out-certificates the issuer covers a set percentage of the underlying. So if the certificate has a leverage of 5 and the underlying changes by 1%, the certificate increases or decreases by 5%. In this case if the underlying drops by 20%, the knock-out is activated and you suffer a total loss. Upside of this is that you can't suffer a greater loss than what you put in but have a greater chance for profit.
I have 300-400 bucks at the moment and wanted to try these out for a long time now. I'm pretty bullish on Nvidia, Teradyne, First Solar and TSMC and think I'll choose three with leverages between 3 and 5.

Graphite is necessary to make lithium batteries. Lithium battery demand is only going to go up from here. Nouveau Monde just cracked a deal to open what will be the largest graphite mine in North America, reporting exceptionally high purity and operating according to Canadian health and safety standards. Buy and hold. Don't expect it to raise quickly unless people try to pump it. If it DOES get pumped, sell and get back in later.

Just checked this shit. I am a big fan of small caps sub $10 with wacky volatility.

This shit has volatility at 200%+. I think selling covered calls on SOS is the move. Feb 19 7.50 C's trading at a 1.15 per share premium lmfao. That would be an instant ~15.5% on a 5 day investment.

I think I will scoop at least 100 shares of SOS tomorrow and sell calls. Looks like free money with volatility this high.

Honestly, the residency horror is (mostly) necessary. But it does suck. Most of the crap we burn out on is paperwork bullshit that does nothing for patient care, is required due to (((lawyers))), and just miles thick nonsense. Like electronic medical records. Great idea, but then throw in 5 pages of auto-populated bullshit to "prove" you looked at it, and you have yet another shitty soap note with 5 lines out of 500 that are actually informative.

Hmmm, I reckon it's similar to SOXL and TQQQ strategies. These simple more strategic plays can give really great rewards and compounding.

I guess if anything it's just about that. For instance I routinely think AAPL investors are the geniuses of the current market. Did investing a lot into AAPL over the past 20 years take a billion IQ, yet anyone who did with any sort of leverage has had incredible compounding gains.

Even long-short portfolios are really just trying to abuse leverage in a hidden way. Though I find that portfolio strategy pretty terrible. I guess if anything, it's adjusting portfolio construction rapidly to changing conditions. Maybe most investors stick to one construction strategy too much and don't vary / reshape their portfolio enough to optimize for the market they are in.

I can distinctly remember using a multitude of different portfolio construction shapes all during the 2020 including pre-post covid to match what was happening. I think there is a lot of room in that for innovation possibly.

The other thing is extreme simplification of ideas and then rigorous "thought exercise" to confirm the position and strategy as the main strat rather than scouring SEC pages or constructing elaborate excel sheets. A simple good idea is really enough.

That's why everybody should just buy leveraged ETFs and hold. Buy more with every paycheck. It's not "survivorship bias" when literally everybody that does the same thing gets rich simultaneously. The only rational deviation for a fire and forget strategy is exactly how much leverage. If you're risk averse, use SSO or QLD. You'll still make it eventually. If you throw caution to the wind then load up on SOXL, TQQQ, TECL, FNGU, the works. Knock yourself out. That's what the 3x ETF shills have been trying to say all along. Everybody has a ticket to the ride and while naturally the market goes up and down in the short and medium term, nobody gets dumped on (in the long term).

A lot of the gains are probably more to do with adjusting to the absurd market conditions very quickly and understanding the macro trends well. I intentionally miss out on opportunities just to trade less and safer, such as completely ignoring the "Reopen" nonsense

Of course this is just spin since they regularly lose money in a down market (just look at Bridgewater in March). Yet a lot of rich dentist types fall for the marketing and like the conceit and glamor of being a "sophisticated investor" that pisses money away on underperforming 2 and 20 hedge clowns when they'd make twice as much with a Vanguard ETF.

Some of them do. Also what's important to take into consideration is that while these huge investment firms don't make WOAH +1000% BETTER TAKE A SCREENSHOT :OOOO gains they make double digit percentages on billions of dollars while rarely losing money which is a lot harder. Also their returns on equity are absurd, like in the six digit percentage range.

Interesting article in Australia
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-02-15/why-australian-property-prices-will-continue-to-soar/13154220

I'm sure most countries are doing something similar: they acknowledge that their QE will have disastrous consequences and they're just kicking the can down the road. They're doing this on purpose to avoid recession during the pandemic. The will try to avoid raising interest rates for 3 more years>

They also acknowledge that the low rates has encouraged many to borrow more than they can bite off and they will be screwed later. But their main priority is stimulate spending and trickle down BS. They think that allowing the housing bubble to blow up will somehow encourage employment, wages, and retail spending.

Since we're all in this together, I just wonder if something could set off a market drop earlier than they are hoping. If it happens in one major country I'm guessing it could pop off everywhere

Trying to understand why so few anons are talking about entertainment and casino stocks. Did that many people get burned by FUN? The vertical integration potential seems right up /biz/‘s alley.

Consider that sports betting is going to be legal in 20+ states, I imagine you are going to see sports books run promotions where fans get free tickets to see the Las Vegas Raiders host their hometown team if they book a hotel room for that weekend. The casinos are going to have a steady stream of fans every fall and it seems inevitable that Vegas will get a MLB and NBA franchise in the next five years.

Yes and no. Culturally speaking not at all as the Cossacks were free people of the steppe who set up independent communities to colonize the rough and rugged steppes. Because it was difficult to control them due to the terrain governments granted the communities certain priviledges to keep them happy. Because of that, serfs also fled and escaped feudal duties to join them. Vlad on the other hand represented German-christrian colonization efforts to reclaim territory lost to the turks.

What?

While it's true that a daily 3x ETF won't get you 3x the gains over a green year, it is still going to outperform the underlying index. This is why TQQQ gets talked about so much here: it doesn't get 3x the gains of QQQ in the long term, but it's still significantly more.

SSO is a 2x leveraged ETF based on the S&P 500 and it is one of the few leveraged ETFs that existed before the Great Financial Crisis of 2008. Had you bought SSO at the literal top of the market before the recession in October 2007, as of this moment, you would have gains of 176%. Had you bought the underlying SPY on the same day you would have gains of 98%. So had you bought the leveraged ETF, even at the worst possible time, you still would have ended up with almost double the gains.
Remember this the next time somebody throws shade on leveraged ETFs because of volatility decay. Buy the index based leveraged ETFs and win. Simple as that.
All ETFs suffer from volatility decay including unleveraged ones. While avoiding leveraged ETFs, you shouldn't buy unleveraged 1x ETFs either because e.g. 0.5x would "decay" even less. But that logic implies 0.25x would be even better still, and so on. This is obviously absurd taken to it's conclusion but that is the implication of what is commonly advocated.
What's being missed is there is nothing magical about 1x leverage. As a matter of fact, historically in most market environments worldwide 2x daily leverage is about the sweet spot. The only glaring exception is Japan where 0.5x would bizarrely have been most appropriate.
The conventional wisdom behind these ETFs as "trading tools" also is simply not true. All these ETFs do is increase beta exposure in much the same way that buying high beta stocks increase beta exposure. Practically speaking, there's little difference between a portfolio of stocks with an average beta of 2 and a 2x levered S&P 500 ETF. The risks are the same. Yet, no one goes around calling AMD (which has a beta of 2.83) a single day "trading tool" or a scam. In fact, holding AMD is way riskier than holding a 3x S&P 500 ETF!
This would be known if anti-leveraged ETF bloggers actually read the literature or God forbid thought for themselves

Shipping companies are un-investable
Classic boom bust
No competitive advantage = no margins except during boom in which they overbuild ships resulting in bust.
Rather invest in companies with competitive advantage aka moat.

I'm too chickenshit to go all in before earnings and the end of the lock up, but I might start DCAing in next week, especially if it drops after earnings.

Uh. Leveraged etfs decay because they literally buy high and sell low to maintain leverage ratio.
So it's not at all equlivent to buying a stock with a higher beta.
Although a handful of survivorship bias and lookahead biased leveraged etfs may have outperformed over whatever your backrest time period it is likely due to their exceptionally strong performance of underlying asset and unusually low volatility.
You think this is a good idea based in a long history of underperformance followed by outperformance driven by a few select FANG stocks?
