there is an interesting anecdote about burgers in american history regarding mcdonalds quarter pounder.

there was a competing burger, it was 1/3 lb. in product testing and research groups, the competing chains 1/3 lb burger outperformed mcdonalds 1/4lb burger by all metrics, including price/lb. however, americans difficulty in understanding numbers and math resulted people not understanding that they were getting a bigger better burger and for better value with the 1/3lb burger.
