in te real world a third party (government) is needed to enforce contracts between contract participating parties.
a smart contract removes the third party allowing for contracts to take place with only two parties in action

because I'm a god damn unconscious autonomous taxi.

The cars will be able to detect defects instantly and get them sorted out as a priority, allowing the taxi service to run effectively 24/7. It's just one of the thousands of applications that will become the passive income generators of tomorrow.

Now, imagine that your autonomous taxi gets into a crash - the insurance smart contract instantly sends another one out for you to work on your behalf whilst the claim process is underway. Or your flight is delayed, and you get an instant payout. We think about how everything is 'on-demand' in today's times, but this will all look slow compared to what's to come.

>WHAT THE FUCK IS A SMART CONTRACT

Well, when you spend cash and buy stuff, you're actually engaging in contractual activity. The money itself is a form of contract, receipts you get are an aspect of the contract, even if it's all verbal, verbal contracts exist.

Smart contract is just a "contract" but on the blockchain, which means that it is computer code which allows you to do certain things.

For example, the token ERC-20 (ethereum coins) is a smart contract that has functions allowing you to trade it, to mint it (like printing money) etc... You can look this all up yourself if you read the Ethereum documentation.

Basically, a smart contract is computer code that you use to add a transaction on the blockchain (or really to program it for whatever you want). I'm just learning programming now so that I can actually understand this stuff, someone else probably has ab etter answer.
