Fellow stinkies, are any of you in any way nervous about staking?
When I moved my links to my cold wallet, my heart was pounding the whole time, and I was terrified I'd lose them.
While the prospect of staking is extremely tempting, I'd be so afraid of the node failing, or my links being lost or transferred incorrectly.
Am I just being overdramatic?

No you're not, keep in mind how young both the concept and implementation of staking actually is. "HURR NOT YOUR KEYS NOT YOUR COINS" has some validity to it especially if there is no insurance your coins can be recovered/compensated for if lost due to a fault in either hardware or software.

glad to see someone else has my reservations - what's your plan when staking is out? just hold as normal?

I'm not in a hurry. I've cashed out $400k from Chainlink already (that $400k is after taxes) and already took out my initial investment of like $10k.

I still have $700k worth of Chainlink. My current plan is to wait out for like a year when staking is released and see how profitable it is and what are the dangers. At that point I believe (or hope) that there will be some options like staking on Kraken or some other "safe" platform, instead of Linkpool being the only option where to stake your stinkies (I sadly missed out the LP train)

That seems pretty sensible, but don't you worry that if staking isn't 100% bulletproof that that could devalue link as a whole?

>> No.28682926

>>28682727
Devalue in a what sense? You mean the price going down from here or what?

Rest of my links are for a long term hold. I am talking about 2025 earliest. I am still a huge Chainlink bull, I think most crypto will die if something like Chainlink will devalue or "fail"

>> No.28683156

Devalue in the sense that if the nodes CAN fail and staking isn't 100% reliable, it sets an example of what could go wrong, making institutional money less likely to buy in/use the service. Maybe not devalue it to 0, just reduce investor confidence, like that double spend FUD around BTC a few weeks ago, if that turned out to be real, wouldn't BTC have suffered massively for it?

And yeah make no mistake I'm bullish on link too, and I still think we're insanely early, only v0.9.10 on github for example.

Projected APY% on staking? Nobody probably knows

>> No.28683302

You can "stake" them already on Nexo, 5% APR, interest is paid daily in link. Company seems legit but i wouldn't trust them with too many of my linkies, still they do seem to work as supposed so far. Other such firms give even better rates, but it seems dodgy. 5% on link ( and any other crypto ) and 8.5% APR on fiat cash Nexo gives already seems too good to be true, but there must be a catch

I've seen very high estimates. Extremely high estimates. Delusional estimates.

I personally would be content that $700k worth of Chainlink would net me $30k in terms of apy%

I have no idea how high/low estimate that is. It's just would be personally enough for me

that's 4.3%, not very competitive with other yields. definitely going to be at least double that.
