My view on $15 min wage
>Waaah cant live on current low wages
>Waaah not matching cost of living increase
>Waaah too many low paying jobs
So, basically instead of raising the cost for EVERYONE. Just lower the cost of living. Stop importing people to the US while we have unemployment over 1% and a homeless crisis.
Maybe just maybe they would think about stopping the build of larger houses so the cities, counties and states get more in taxes and allow for smaller houses and even tiny houses to be built without fucking with the tax code so they could go after the smaller house users. Also $15,000 for a new of the cheapest cars possible to buy like the Spark and others? Fuck that. There is some bullshit happening and min wage is not the problem nor the solution.

Here is how property taxes should be done in areas that have them at high numbers.
Taxes are collected to pay for services that when there are more people in the area require more $ like public schools for more kids, more waste/water, etc..
Tax based on SQ FT of land owned and times that by people living there. Example:
10,000 sq ft x 1-2 person = $500
10,000 sq ft x 5 person = $2000
20,000 sq ft x 1-2 person = $800
20,000 sq ft x 5 person = $3200
30,000 sq ft x 1-2 person = $1000
30,000 sq ft x 5 person = $4000
House size doesnt matter, make zone laws to keep them specific distance from property lines and a specific height max rule. Otherwise anything goes. Just increase it by min amount per person after 2 people. fuck with the sq ft or $ per person but the math is a lot better than just sq ft on a house.

Living wages mean more disposable income for most people, and when you can afford resent , food and then some small luxuries, but not big things like your own home, then that money goes back into the economy very quickly.
Giving people living wages improves the economic state of the whole country in every study and historical example where it's been applied.

some jobs aren't worth $15 an hour to a company. raising minimum wage will result in cutting staff and spreading a workload among them or replacing a job entirely with a computer or simple machine. this also creates a situation where large swaths of people aren't worth paying $15 an hour to do fucking ANYTHING, thus flooding the labor supply with desperate people who will take any fucking job for the new minimum wage. with a glut of desperate people, $15 an hour is not just the minimum wage, but also becomes the MAXIMUM wage for a job, because, thanks to a lack of leverage with a now instantly replaceable position, there is no way to expect a raise if you don't have leverage in these shitty positions. in this way, major corporations will likely end up saving money with an increase in the minimum wage, which is likely the only interest being served when the government gets involved in finances at all nowadays

basically, it's a way to create a permanent lower class in the long run.

If $7 barely covers your living expenses and they're "already budgeted", the extra money is literally more than a x2 in spending power. Assuming that the $7 go almost entirely towards subsisting, and that it is enough for those needs. Then they currently have, let's say, $1 an hour of those $7 that's not going to basic necessities. At $15 an hour that would be $9. Far more than double.

I like to think that Biden is using it as a political threat against the republicans. A $15 dollar minimum wage will push huge numbers of people to megacorps. Therefore, smaller businesses that would usually donate republican would be cash-strapped and the republican party would lose a great deal of patrons. So it is in the republican parties best interests to play along in other reforms such as healthcare or immigration or education.

Well the pay increase goes for everyone but so does the cost of living increase. Many will not be getting raises as well, I can promise you that. Ultimately it would be like: minimum wagies make 100% more, everything ends up costing 30% more. Minimum wagies' purchasing power still goes up 70%, everyone else's goes down 30%. Ultimately it does what it was trying to do which is narrow the income divide between top and low earners, at least as measured in terms of purchasing power.

This basically. I'm a cost accountant and all I do is variance analysis/DS for outsourcing. I'll tell you what price floors do using small words for the smoothbrains. Companies don't give a fuck about the arbitrary numbers, it is all ratios and percents. ROI and profit margins are everything. When you double minimum wage you just increased labor costs across the entire labor market (it is a market). You think the skilled laborer making $15-$20/hour is going to accept that wage when he can get high and flip burgers for the same amount? Fuck no. He wants $25-$30/ hour now. It's a ripple effect. You essentially increase labor costs across the entire domestic workforce. So what will a company do to maintain profit margin? They have 3 options:
>offshore
>automate
>increase product prices

In the end most do a combination of all 3. This just leads to inflation and unemployment. Increase the inputs for product the companies WILL find a way to remain profitable. That involves the cost of everything going up and/or canning domestic workers and hiring ravi/xi.

I do the outsourcing calculations.

Not to get too political, but I hate the economic incentives that this creates...here's just two of them.
* Your plan creates a negative incentive towards creation of families Oh no, guess we better not encourage having families and just invite a million shitskins a year to replace into the country instead.
* If you're taxed by the person, now you need a new government bureaucracy to keep tabs on how many people are staying on your property at all times. Medicine is not a field to consider if you want to make money anymore. CMS just made another 10% cut to physician reimbursement and healthcare facilities are learning they can hire PAs/NPs for a fraction of the cost. As everything is algorithms and best care guidelines, any idiot can do it. Surgeons make decent money still but only after 13 years of post-college training. And even then the constant bureaucratic bullshit and endless busy work means most burn out in 20 years. Sad thing is the young guys are naive and hungry and in educational debt to their ears so they’ll work like dogs after residency. It’s only a few years in the truth hits them. Medicine is no longer the career it used to be

There should be no minimum wage. If someone is willing to work for me for $1, and that's the best job they can get, and that's the highest wage I can make profit at, then I should be allowed to do it. Minimum wage is stupid. You can't pay someone below the minimum wage to survive if they are full time, because then you won't have anyone to work for you.
