Larger market cap basically means it's worth more. MATIC (now known as Polygon) has the 84th largest market cap of all cryptos.

The price per token is not relevant. They're 12 cents but they have a shit ton of tokens outstanding.

You have it backwards. Market Cap is what the entire token pool is worth collectively at the current price.

Coin NSDP has a total of 1488 tokens in circulation. The going rate for an ABC token is $10. Therefore, the NSDP market cap is $14,880
Coin OYVY has 6 million tokens in circulation. The going rate for an OYVY token is only .10. Therefore the OYVY market cap is $600,000

Lets say the developers of OYVY issue 6 million more tokens. The second that happens, is now automatically defined as $1.2 million. After people find out about it however, they don't want such massive inflation and don't want either the new tokens or the 6 million they already have, and try to sell them off. This causes the price to crash down 75% to 0.025 per token. Now the new market cap is only $300,000 because even though there are more tokens, the collective value of them is less because no one wants them around.
