Ledger says its open source on the box but if you look into it, its not 100% open source.
So the reasoning is, the open source stuff you know exactly what its doing so you know how secure it is and its been pen tested by the whole world, closed source you don't know so if it has some glaring vulnerability that people aren't taking advantage of yet because its not easy to see. No it’s not retard. There’s less chance of a phone being hacked than a PC.

>> No.28541886

For any newfags and poorfags:

Overwhelming vast majority of lost funds are due to lost/forgotten info (especially with crypto), phishing, and social engineering. If you do your due diligence (safe storage of seed phrases, keeping device clean of malware, not bragging/showing off your crypto, avoiding phishing/scams/fake sites) you have drastically reduced your chances of losing your funds.

Metamask is inherently more secure than an exchange. An exchange is basically an IOU; you don't have access to your private key or your seed phrase and you can only use this site's UI to move your funds. If the site gets hacked or goes defunct, you can lose your funds. With Metamask, you know your seed phrase and private key. You can transfer these to a new wallet even if Metamask disappears overnight.

Additionally, your private key and seed phrase are only stored ENCRYPTED in your LOCAL internet browser. You do not type your seed phrase or private key in unless you are importing an existing account to a new device/browser. If your Metamask password is compromised, an attacker can do literally nothing with it unless they have access to your local computer.

Furthermore, Metamask can work IN CONJUNCTION with a hardware wallet, and Metamask does not have any access to your private key or your seed phrase in any way when doing so.

It should just add it to your list of Metamask accounts. I would make sure you have your backup info ready anyway but you should be able to click on that color wheel in the Upper Right. If you just have 1 account right now it should say Account 1, once you connect HW wallet it'll be another one on that list, probably Trezor 1.

So, I've already used metamask wallet to stake Link on Bancor and to stake GRT. I was hoping that I could use the Trezor to protect the EXISTING account but I guess that's not possible, right?

Also, looks like a few have requested that Metamask add yubikey for 2fA, which would be fucking awesome, but not sure how long we are going to have to wait for that.
