IMO a nice house + some money to invest/safe up/whatever so you don't always have to work hard is the best balance.

The problem is that 90% of the market gets rekt by a huge correction while they are caught IN BETWEEN these thresholds. They are desperately holding out for that next goal and then the market corrects -50%.

It also doesn't help that the more you get, the less you feel. It's an automatic protection mechanism of your brain.
With a huge portfolio even steady days with 2% swings can make your portfolio swing by 50k, 100k, you name it. You simply have to tune it out. So money starts becoming more abstract automatically.

Another factor is that generally the more you have, the longer you've been in the game. Thus it feels like you have earned it. By this I mean you're not going to cash out that low-end goal after enduring multiple years of bear market. You feel like you have to justify all that time HODLing. So you reach out for that next goal.
