Well there have been no large scale studies on the effects of UBI for obvious reasons; it's never been implemented yet. Some countries have done tests where they gave it to a few thousand people at most for a certain amount of time. That's not enough to affect the entire country. Many of those test subjects probably even kept their jobs because they knew beforehand the test would last for a limited time.
I'll admit I'm basing my opinions on guesses of what would happen with UBI, but I think my ideas are justified.
1) Why would most people keep working if they could do nothing and have a decent standard of living? It would turn into a snowball effect because you need workers to pay for the UBI. I think this would lead to a collapse like what happened whenever communism was tried. But this time it wouldn't be because of the government confiscating means of production and not knowing how to keep them running, but because too few people would want to keep things running anymore.
2) If UBI doesn't lead to a collapse it might just lead to everything becoming more expensive to compensate. This already happens with other welfare programs, such as housing gibs, which led to more expensive rents in my country. In the end nobody would even benefit and the UBI would just be theater.
