28456745 No.28456745 [Reply] [Original]

How complicated are taxes for Canada when it comes to services like Celsius and cryptoexchange in general.

Some people say the only thing you should report is the profit after selling. But in reality the Canadian government wants calculations and information on every single exchange you did.

>> No.28456895

I only buy bitcoin and send it to binance and do all my transactions, and then cash out in bitcoin so it looks like a capital gain on bitcoin

So you send bitcoin to binance. I'm assuming you buy from newton, shakepay or ndax?

that's just taxed as income unfortunately I'm pretty sure. You wouldn't be able to benefit from only 50% of capital gains being taxable with that

I've been doing my own taxes for crypto since 2016 and I highly recommend you buy a lifetime license of a program of some sorts - CoinTracking is a good one for CAD, as we have different rules than the US for calculating your cost basis.

Contrary to what everyone here says, every crypto to crypto transaction is a taxable event and you need to adjust your cost basis for a future sale. Canada uses ACB, which is Average Cost Basis, so every transaction counts towards your final cost vs your final cashout.

Use the shit out of Monero and Tornado and don't use CEX anymore and deal with DEFI strictly. You should not under any circumstance self-incriminate yourself telling the feds that x, y,and z are your wallets.

If you had 50$ worth of crypto which is now worth 100$, you have 50 cap gains.

Look, eventually we're all going to make it (those of us with Link). Fiat from an unknown source will eventually start hitting our banks. Either from staking or cashing out lump sums, CRA will eventually catch on and they have years to come after you, nevermind how retarded they are. And not all of us are going to get stupid scam credit cards from crypto.com and somehow try to make that work. Point is, we're likely going to get audited. Shakepay and other exchanges have the addresses from where the crypto came from and it's easily trackable from there. It's best to take it up the ass now then get fucked with fines and forced into back payment later.

if you have a 'disability' and are a student then CESB is 2k also, same as CERB was, so i'd just be switching it over best case scenario and not get fucked

Crypto interest earned = income taxable event.
Calculated based on value during time it was earned. i.e. you earned 1 UNI in interest which was valued as $4 at the time, even though tax time came and it mooned to $20, as far as income tax is concerned you made +4.
If i understand correctly though the UNI is still added to your capital gains as well, and that would be based on current value - cost (so 20-4). It's a bit complicated.
