This is the chart for the underlying SOX index. The downside is we have another lost decade in semiconductors and crab the whole time. Since SOXL is triple leveraged and daily rebalanced, an extended crab scenario means your account goes down even though the underlying stays roughly the same. If you get into SOXL you either need to be ready to dip in and out or you need to be in it for the long term. If you get in SOXL with the idea that you are going to hold and just forget about it for any time frame under 10 years you could be in for a nasty surprise at the end.
I have quite a bit of SOXL but my plan is to get out when the underlying dips under the 200 day moving average. That way I'm protected in case things go bad. And you never really know.
