I dive in the UK and looking to get a metal detector one day.

Not precious metal related but in 2013 we had a really heavy storm. A week or two later I was diving a ww2 wreck in Plymouth and part of the hull had been sheared off in the storm, the steel was shiny and there was an ammo box with rounds in it. You're not supposed to surface with ammo because when it oxidises it can go off (this is what you're trained, I'm not sure how likely it is). When I went back a month later it was gone, I really wish I'd taken just one bullet.

I'm a brainless retard when it comes to finance (more into sciences), but I somehow got drawn to this general from the frontpage multiple times, and since then have lurked a few threads

If you guys would be so kind, I have a few questions about silver that I had in mind after lurking a little

Is it better to buy silver compared to gold( apart from the storage bit), is silver running out, and also how does buying silver defeat the jews exactly

On a side note I have no interest in selling silver, I only wish to buy it and hoard fuckloads of it like a mad crow

>On a side note I have no interest in selling silver, I only wish to buy it and hoard fuckloads of it like a mad crow
Fantastic, welcome to the crew.
Both silver and gold are good but silver has seen a bit of a supply shock on the retail side in recent weeks. Silver production is also decreasing every year and is used in all kinds of applications a lot so demand remains high. Silver has great fundamentals and acts as both a monetary metal (hedge against inflation) and industrial metal. Gold is mostly a monetary metal but has some uses.

People are theorizing that as inflation keeps going people will in increasing amounts by silver and gold. Silver is cheaper and many argue very undervalued so it's theorized that will be sold out very fast.

>also how does buying silver defeat the jews exactly
Well it doesn't really, lots of banks hold a lot of silver in their possession. But if the price of silver goes up by a lot and very fast on the futures market, many banks will take huge hits due to their short positions. There's also the fact that there are hundreds of paper contracts/claims for the same bars of silver in the futures market so if institutions or rich people took delivery there in quick succession, the entire house of cards could fall-

That's a mystery to all because the paper spot is essentially just a playground for banks and rich people to speculate on what the price they themselves dictate will be amongst themselves. I think we need a longer term sustained demand for the spot price to go up "organically".

Sprott's physically backed ETF PSLV is great because they actually take delivery from the futures market as the ETF price goes up. It would also be good if some of these rich silver/gold bulls decided to take some of the leased metals off the bankers' slimy hands.

>how/when will this demand shock begin to translate to paper pricing?
If COMEX default will happen the price of paper will plummet. It will go to zero because paper is worth nothing. They already can settle delivery of future contract in fiat money not in metal. In March metals took a huge dip but you couldn't buy gold for that price anywhere. Even dealers started paying above spot for buybacks.
After collapse of COMEX and LBMA price of physical will be discovered by market not exchange.

if you are buying entirely for the silver value, stick to spot price but consider lower purity means it would be more expensive to melt. Thing is most of those old coins carry some small numismatic value so imo they work as bullion (see Thalers restrikes, Canada dollars, etc)

Thank you that makes sense. And how much % would you in general pay over spot price? I believe silver shortages are a real thing and I believe the price will go up a lot, so I'm willing to pay more than spot, but is there a rule of thumb or is this partly subjective?

I usually look to pay their pure silver's content worth without considering the cost of refining. My thought is silver price would have to literally skyrocket for people to start melting down all the old silver coins they find which I really wish it could happen but doesn't seem realistic. I'm looking more into a "buy at $25 to sell at $50 to someone who wants to sell at $75" scenario, if that makes sense

You see all the discussion in PMG on topics like hyperinflation, bond yields, currency dilution, the uselessness of crypto, and macroeconomic fundamentals? And also all the discussion on junior mining stocks, which have historical precedent to increase 100+ times in value in PM bull markets? These things used to not be discussed on 4chan. Silver miner anon introduced us to the potential of mining stocks and helped reaffirm to everyone just how vital PM’s are in an era of unprecedented financial manipulation and instability and currency dilution. He spread these concepts all over biz and pol. People shared his ideas with Reddit and with people in their own lives. He helped many, many people see the economy for what it really is, and showed them a way to protect themselves from it. I am extremely grateful for his insights and education.

GSR is 68 right now. Gold to silver density ratio is 1.841. 1.841 times 68 is 125.24. So it takes 125.24 times more space to stack the same amount of value in silver as it does in gold. This is likely to change with silver increasing in value relative to gold, so you can stack more silver right now with it being worth more later. The increased space silver takes up also means your stack is more divisible. You can pay for smaller things with more material than gold. You would have to shave off a bit of gold to pay for something that you might be able to pay for using a mercury dime instead

I put in an extra low sell to see if anyone would buy butthorse. No one will touch that trash.
For the people that don't remember the original butthorse posts there were 3 stocks pushed in an anon's rec. 2 out of three were winners. Butthorse was the bad pick. Tinka resources & Fireweed Zinc were the winners- Tinka had a bit of a crab issue but had been growing well. Fireweed was the real winner, 25-30¢ gains off the earliest post I can recall.
You picked a bad stock, get over it and stop trying to dump it on every newbie who comes to this thread.

The CEO has good ideas but the company has met with a lot of delays in the past, which is why people dump on it. He was giving interviews on ytube in 2016 saying the mine will go online 2018... took until 2020 to really get the first drill going. It was almost vaporware until it wasn't--but it's a one-mine operation currently so pretty risky as far as drilling juniors go.

On the plus side, management has been very good about not diluting shareholders with retarded amounts of offerings. The few that they did, the CEO and board officers have bought like 25~40% of those offers--aka putting their own money into their operations. No worries about the Board dumping shareholders when times are hard like Hecla and others have done prior.

The CEO is a silver bull and refuses to supply the COMEX. He's also trying to pay dividends in physical silver once the company can afford to hand out dividends. Honestly, a cool guy for a rich dude desu.

Anyone here concerned about the inflation of precious metals? It's peanuts compared to fiat currency of course.

But I know that at current rates of gold mining the amount of gold in circulation will increase 10-fold by 2100. There are currently 138,000 kilotons of gold mined and it's estimated that 1,150,000 will be mined by 2100.

Silver and Platinum will be mined even more while the global population is projected to decline. Won't more precious metals and fewer people result in the valuation of the precious metals going down? (not compared to fiat since those inflate even faster).

Just some legitimate concern, I myself hold a bunch of 22.8g silver coins and a gold eagle.

Rate of exploration is going down because of the massive amount of new sources discovered between 2009-2016 due to the economic crisis funding lots of exploration initiatives.

Now there is no incentive to explore more as mining firms expect they won't be able to compete against the new larger deposits found last decade which only recently started being exploited.

Again I hate playing devil's advocate because I actually hold silver and gold as I want to avoid fiat. But how do we protect ourselves against the inflation of these precious metals. In the past you might have said real estate or stocks but real estate is also going down with a shrinking economy. Companies are going to be less profitable with a smaller global population and the stock market is extremely overvaluated right now anyway.

Silver is still good because it's relatively low priced right now compared to fiat's inflation rate. But I'm talking about the long term like in 30 years time when we retire.

I'd argue real estate is still good in terms of actually securing *needs,* not in terms of securing value. People need places to live and those places are built on land... it doesn't matter if a home is "worth" $1 or $1kk so long as the features stay the same.

It's not a good store of value, and arguably only useful for generating steady income via rent if you're not living in it.

The most stable form of value is pm... it's just not bullet-proof because of the exploration, expansion of supply/change in demand etc which you are already aware of. Nothing in life is set in stone unfortunately.

If you think things in general are going to continue the way they're going, the situation for silver will be deflation, not inflation. Silver is consumed by industrial processes faster than it is mined. It can never be recovered at current prices so you don't have to worry about inflation back to current prices

Silver is never running only cost of mining will go up significantly.
Seawater filtration and deep sea mining are possibilities.
Even asteroid mining is possibility.
Silver running out is another Malthusian trap it will never happen.

The countries where most of the veins/deposits are that were discovered in 2009-2016 aren't the ones exploring right now because they already have found big deposits that will last them a couple decades. So the countries with the most silver in the ground geologically aren't looking for silver. Of course the amount of newly discovered deposits is going to drop. Higher budgets doesn't magically make silver appear in places it would never be.

The point is that once those other nations new deposits stop giving good yield they will explore in their rich soils again which will result in lots of discoveries. We've seen this cycle happen in the 1970s as well.

You forget that fiat inflation will far outpace metals inflation. You think it is easier to explore more mine locations, establish new mines, and bring them up to operating capacity than it is to print more dollars?

Do you think that if easily mined underground deposits run out people will stop using gold and silver?
First all commodities exchanges will default. Then gold will hit 25000$/oz and silver will hit 1000$/oz in current money. Then seawater filtration and deep sea mining will become economically viable.
Militaries and corporations around the world will pay any price for gold and silver if it gives them any edge over their opponents. They need for electronics they won't go back to using analog technologies.
Asteroid mining will still happen but not in our lifetimes. It will be primarily source of materials for space colonization. Precious metals will be only byproduct of it just like with modern copper mining.
