Just bought a radeon VII (cuz most $ /day on minerstat.com) and stick it in my PC as a 2nd GPU and started mining using Easyhash. Super easy. A day of reading and watching youtubes.

After learning more, built open rig and just started adding used radeon VII's when I see them cheap on ebay. Also switch to HiveOS and ethermine.org as my knowledge get better.

Pretty much went from this guys vid, he is an Isreali, I know 4chan a little sensitive about that but good info: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39-Vo4q-0k0

Unbelievably, the Radeon VII, a 2 year old card far outperforms (at 80-90Mh/s) my brand new RX 6800 XT top of the line card from the same company (60Mh/s). pretty much got everything on ebay before ETH went parabolic, so I wouldn't suggest getting started now.

The medical grade cart was found on street (SF, CA good stuff gets tossed) and amazingly fit the rig perfectly, as did the 20" box fan.

Cost was close to ~$5500, used GPUS from ebay were the bulk of that cost, the rest of the stuff new mostly from ebay. I check every now and then, same rig would cost about 10k right now.

If I get "caught" (very unlikely) I am breaking no law, but they could probably tell me to cease and desist. The building is run by city of SF for poor peeps housing, and hard to get booted out of; every "survey" they give I praise the manager and his "team" (janitors etc) and hand it to him in person so he knows im hooking him up and probably wouldnt GAF.

I have not yet burned up a GPU (4 months mining), but from time to time as I get more invalid shares on a card I ease off the overclocking and undervolting until they go away. HiveOS is amazing for managing it. No monitor/screen, just webpage (pic related).

Thanks for the nice comments biz, hope that helps!

Dunno if it's the case with him, but I lived in a Hotel for two years in a, um, southern country, but I actually rented the suite from a guy who bought it. So the rooms were basically private property within the Hotel, which means no cleaning women or maintenance people bothering you.

lmao I don't pay electricity in the place I'm renting because it's a big ass house that the owner remodelled into little cabins and all of us share the same regulator so the owner doesn't bother with splitting the electricity bill.
I think I might do the same, OP. Do you use a regulator or a nobreak? My cabin is a little old so the connectors can be faulty at times. I left the heater on once and some led lights connected to the other side of the place went bust.

Thanks! This thread means a lot to me because I am a formerly homeless, recovering alcoholic. I built the rig and started crypto investing while sober, relapsed after getting laid off due to Covid from my corporate job at a hotel (the irony), then got sober again just in time for le epic bull run at start of year. Like a reward for getting sober. Love /biz/, i'm here forever, wagmi

It mines about 1 ETH/month currently.

>Do you use a regulator or a nobreak?
I used "gold" name brand non-cheap/chinese power supplies (Corsair) so I should be ok. I just keep the amps below 20A (breaker rating) minus the janitors vacuum (7A) so I don't trip the breaker which might raise questions if it happened a few times (would narrow down which room lol)

>I am a formerly homeless, recovering alcoholic.
Been there fren. Something that helped me actually fully recover and not just constantly feel like I was craving or missing something was what people are starting to call "dopamine fasting" now. You can google it for more details, everyone has different ideas about how you should do it, but basically you just starve yourself from all forms of pleasure and fun for 3+ days. The harder you go and the longer you make it the better you feel after. Things you used to love and lost interest in suddenly are amazing again. You get your patience and attention span back and appreciate small things. I'm not sure how else to explain it, but it's like it reset my brain to before I ever fucked with drugs and alcohol and got addicted to vidya and 4chan.

Anyway, good luck. Addiction is a bitch and I understand no one ever ends up falling into it because they were happy. Whatever you've been through, I'm glad you're doing better now. Keep pushing forward and never look back. WAGMI.
