Anchoring is a psychological effect whereby people's estimates of numbers or values are affected by previous but unrelated numbers or values. In other words, their guess of a number is "anchored" to the previous number.

Example: people are asked to think of their social security number and then estimate the height of a tree. People with higher social security numbers are more likely to pick higher estimates for the height of a tree.

Anchoring also plays a big role in investing.

Avalanche was at $5 a few weeks ago. A common fallacy is that it has already done a 10x, therefore it can't rise much more. Rather than thinking fundamentally what avalanche is worth, people are anchored to the fact that it was $5 a few weeks ago.

If Avalanche was trading at $20 for most of 2020 instead of $5, then these same people would be happy to buy avalanche, because its only done 2.5x, surely it can do more.

This is irrational thinking. Instead, we should look at avalanche's fundamentals and compare it to similar projects.

Firstly, what is avalanche? Broadly, it's an eth competitor. Similar to say Polkadot or Cardano. They all have, or aim to have smart contracts, programmable money, fast transactions etc.

Ok, so how does Avalanche compare to Cardano or Polkadot?

>> No.28315575

Well, Avalanche has been around for a shorter period of time, and have smart contracts ready. A uniswap style Dex has launched on avalanche, called Pangolin. bZx (margin trading/borrowing/lending), Prosper (prediction markets), yield (yield farming) and union finance are soon to follow, as will many other ethereum projects within the next few weeks. Avalanche is superior in terms of ease of development, because it is EVM compatible and moving a project from ethereum to avalanche is trivial.

This compares favourably to Cardano and Polkadot, which do not have any working dApps (and Cardano doesn't even have smart contracts)

Avalanche is capable of 5000 TPS per subnet with a very low hardware requirement for nodes. This is far superior to Polkadot's 1000 TPS, and Avalanche is trivially capable of massively increasing that by increasing HW requirements of nodes.

Avalanche is more decentralized than Polkadot, with 1000 block producing nodes vs 100 for polkadot.

Ok, so Avalanche is broadly superior to Polkadot and Cardano, how does its market cap compare?

Avalanche: $4b
Polkadot: $22b
Cardano: $27b

In conclusion, Avalanche is currently 5-10x undervalued.

i agree it has a lot of room to grow. even yesterday's pump was without the help of americans. imagine if it was easily accessible to burgers

AVAX is way better than DOT or ADA so 4-5x undervalued is not necessarily true, could just as well be argued that those two are 4-5x overvalued

I'd agree if I was an avax bagholder, but I'm not. I'm just an ETH users that was looking for a better experience. This aint it chief. If a pro user like me has to spend 12 hours doing a simple swap, you're not going to onboard casuals that aren't bagholdes themselves.

I am insanely frustrated right now. This shit is completely unsuable.

>> No.28317062

>>28316642
Just wait a couple days for the UX to be fixed. It's not like its a fundamental problem with the scalability of the blockchain.

just a straight comparison of mcap is also inaccurate given lockups for steaking and the burning of fees (tho as far as i can tell fee burning shouldn't account for that much). 70% of the supply is steaking and you can lock it for a year. lol.

It's true. The roll out is shit. It's also super frustrating for most people. But I trust the team to get all that fixed in due time. Anyway, if your just trying out the network come back in like a week. It should be much better by then. You can also reach out to their dev discord if your looking for help from devs.

Fuck I feel like a paid shill but I'm just an early ico bagholder that somehow feels responsible for people's negative experiences with the platform. What specifically did you have an issue with? Was it the ethereum bridge or pangolin itself?
