ETH is basically a shitshow rn because of fees. ETH has been adopted too quickly to handle all the traffic. and apparently eth 2.0 and staking are like 2 years away.

Cardano is supposed to be an ETH killer (which uses proof of stake) which hasn't yet come to market. but is expected to get to market sooner than ETH 2.0. its now #4 on coinmarketcap

Then theres AVAX which is also a proof of stake solution and potential replacement to ETH. And it seems like they are just now coming to market and things are beginning to be built on it (pangolin). So it beat both ETH2.0 and ADA to market and is currently #24 in market cap.
