You shouldn't use a 100oz because that is out of reach for the AVERAGE person. Otherwise we could go to a 1000 oz bar which has a significant reduction in premium. You should measure a single 1oz coin which is the most common round sold but ebay also has the problem of having shipping cost and ebay fees built into the price.

I'm in Canada and I just looked up the price of a single Maple from four different stores. The average price average being converted into USD is $34.39

I mean you arent wrong.
I agree with your argument.
In a perfect world you would choose a product that everyone could afford.
But its kind of just a trade off.
100oz bars are so much more homogeneous than 10oz bars.
Premiums on 10 oz bars swing so much more wildly depending on brand.
So with 100oz bars the prices end up being more consistent and stable.
Far less swinging around during the course of the day.
It makes for a better metric I think.
Also, its just a baseline to start with.
You could think of it as the new spot price.
When selling your own products you are going to have premiums that you are looking for.
Probably if its smaller denomination you are going to tack on a few percent.

100oz is the only logical way to determine consumer market spot price. The wild variations in price on coins/rounds has too many other factors(mint production status, local availability, etc). 100oz bars are just investment silver that is practical. 1000 oz bars arent practical for anyone, people might take delivery otherwise lol

Current stack since I started buying last week. How should I add $1600 to it (this weekend or early next week)? It's tempting to just buy a kilo bar of silver and spend the rest on gold. Will have another $900 to add also once I get my tax refund back if there's anything left by then.
I am honestly really not interested in rounds right now with the premiums where they are. Would much rather spend at least $800 on junk silver if there was more left.

Also I really like ebay vs comparesilverprices.com or findbullionprices.com because just like those services ebay is lots of companies competing against each other, but unlike those services ebay sellers are all selling a much more similar product.
Similar in the sense that they all take money and ship product that they actually have in stock the next day.
While some of those services take orders then source product.
Some act as an intermediary for larger companies.
Some act as an intermediary for bullion banks.
Some ship next day.
Some ship weeks out.
I mean they are different products in that sense in a way ebay isnt.

ebay is pretty picky about shipping speed, so if you see something guaranteed to arrive within a week it's probably in stock in the store. If it's longer than a week it's probably dropshipped or coming from a remote warehouse.

I have about 20 lbs in a whey container and I can bring it to a yard and get $4/lb right now. That's only from the last year, I've scrapped a few hundred pounds in the past. Don't bother scrapping anything else unless you need the money, it's not worth the time.

If you go with pennies just keep in mind how little they weigh. Don't even consider buying copper bullion because you'll end up paying $20/lb due to refining costs.

kinda confusing since ebay takes 10% off the top.

so $31.49 would be a real retail price of $28.34 to the seller.

also they included shipping in the price, so that's an unknown variable cost added to the thing.

This is such a dumb tired and boring argument.
Everyone here has guns, ammo, and food squirreled away.
Societal problems can happen in many ways, to many levels of SHTF.
There are situations where owning land will end up being best, being fully invested in food and ammo would have been best, where holding stocks would have been best, where bitcoin would have been best, you fucking name it.
We dont buy silver to save us from a zombie appocolypse.
We buy it for its value proposition in a wide range of potential shitty but not necessarily biblically apocalyptic outcomes.

PM's are a way to transfer wealth from one point in time to another. Will a silver eagle be worth more then bullets or food in a SHTF situation? Not likely. But after the dust settles and $USD is worthless paper the PM's will be worth something.
Take a roman empire gold coin. The empire is long gone. But that gold still has tons of buying power today.

Yeah, Heavy batteries, Gold and Copper are what you want to be aware of in industrial garbage. Lithium batteries are $1.3 a pound, I know a car battery will get you about $25 at a scrap yard.
I only very passively scrap things. Like if I throw out old cellphones I'll remove all the gold plating from inside first, same with printers. If you see a computer on the side of the road it's worth it to take it home and remove the CPU and pins. I only got into this because a few years back a guy at work tossed a heavily used welder in the recycling bin and I figured I'd take the wires to make a nice long set of heavy jumper cables - well 00 gauge clamps were $50 so I said screw it. I cut the insulation off those cables and got $50 for something that came out of the trash. That was when copper was a lot cheaper. If you have the room I would hold it until silver and gold go up.

the bigger question no one is asking is the galactic currency crypto or PMs? personally I believe the galactic currency is PMs no matter how many joozians keep pushing their quantum currency.

>the price you can actually buy silver for, is the actual price of Silver
completely wrong. the price you can actually SELL silver for is the actual price of Silver. Your statement: "what I pay is what it's worth" is a common mistake that people make.

They've been buying silver to put in their cars. 45 million ounces of silver were used by the auto industry in 2017.

Someone want to rp me on this stuff? Seems like good value for rarity and cool commercial upside. I bought a bar of rhodium for 1500 when spot was 900, I like the weird stuff but now the PGMs are super high so I'm thinking rare earth metals. Should I pick up a kilo or so of these rhenium pellets just for fun? I'll be paying 20% more than the cost of silver. Or is this stupid and I should be sticking to gold? My main concern is you can't cast it without a vacuum arc furnace. I've got a decent amount of gold, silver and miners (PANMAN, you helped me confirm ngld.v wasn't a complete shitter if youremember)

>is the leadville area any nice? t
it sucks, absolutely awful. Nine months of winter every year followed by three months with so many tourists it takes half an hour to drive 2 blocks. The altitude kills people every year and the houses cost more than Denver.
other than that it's pretty cool though.
