Unless the website comes up and they have some other solution for it, if they're planning to use this particular token (which seems to be listed as inactive on uniswap - you can still import it ) as a store of value on the scale of xbawks heug conspiracy evil, I don't see how that can happen as a an ETH powered token. If you want these people - especially unbanked people or those with no technical experience much less crypto experience to be using it to transfer money, store value, act as an ID etc.. then having it so that in order for them to pay their rent in Everest/ID they need to also have ETH in order to send the damn token, seems counterintuitive. Now maybe they have a solution for this but the damn website isn't up so I can't check. Regardless, its a pretty stupid damn thing in the first place for all these tokens to require separate ETH in order to trade them (or swap to another currency etc) vs the "gas" fee simply coming straight out of the token should it have value capable of covering it etc

It's this difficult because it's the launch of the token, see it as a pre-sale. At some point the token would become tradeable on exchanges and have its own ecosystem so people who use it to pay for shit stay in just an app and do everything with the token itself.

Unless this turns out to truly be THE world shaking crypto new world order or something, the idea that users will not need to do anything but use this particular cryptocurrency isn't realistic, right? Like, not for a long long time. Years. Bitcoin isn't even to the point where you can just expect it to be used as widely as a credit card even, with equal or lesser fees - directly.

So people are going to need to exchange it, even if it does store value. They'll need to be able to exchange it for fiat currencies of course which is a whole thing, but even if we just keep in the crypto space, its likely that people will need to exchange it for BTC, for another crypto etc. Lots of people shift whatever shitcoins they have into BTC, ETH, or into a stablecoin that's fiat-pegged like Tether/USDC etc.. for whatever reason. As a token, you can't do that without ALSO having ETH , right? It just seems like a questionable decision for something with such a large hypothetical mission, not to mention it being dependent entirely on the ETH blockchain, the cost of ETH on some level etc. Especially if we're talking about a multi-governmental global foundation level project here, making your crypto an ERC20 token seems odd if its supposed to be the crux of the new finance paradigm.

and yeah, I'm kinda new to this in particular. I've made a comfortable bit on crypto speculation and mining years ago, but I'm not as familiar with ETH tokens / DeFi sort of things.

It hit me that this is basically black mirror season 3 episode 1. I don't like it, but if I don't buy the only person I'm fucking is myself. I mean, if the whole world is running on this, I'll need to buy in anyway at some point no? There's a lot of nonsense going on with the government already but we still need to pay taxes etc. regardless of our support because that's how it works. For a noob to this sort of defi shit, what's the best way to even get ETH ? I've got a bit of monero for instance but I was thinking of trying to trade 0.1 monero into ETH just to get enough to deal with fees and shit for token exchange and I'm told there are minimum trade limits that are well over the $20+ jesus fuck. At this point I'm think I'll have to set up a fucking Coinbase or Wyre account and buy ETH directly.
