Me. I had $500 in it. Figured it was gone so I held. I sold it all when it hit $50 for the first time. Was certain another mega crash was incoming and this was my time to get out and actually make some money.

Don't think too much about it man.
I'm pretty sure that 99% of holders from that time sold at some point when they saw real money. If someone asked me in 2011 what's more likely to happen in 2021: murrica getting destroyed by asteroid or BTC hitting 40k+, I'd go with space rock for sure.

I used to trade bitcoin for TF2 hats and keys.

Kinda like how I forgot about my TF2 keys.

Once BTC hit the news with $1000 price, I'm pretty sure that most of them rushed to their mom basements in hopes of finding their wallets on old hardrives (even my grandma knew about Bitcoin in 2017). I was one of those too. Mined a bit when I was toying with idea of internet money in early 2010's. Missed the selling boat when it hit $1000, but once $2700 hit the news I sold all of it w/o thinking much.
Do I regret it? Kinda, but no one can predict the future, the top or the bottom. Profit is still a profit. It's better to gain little than gamble your house and savings away.

This. People focus too much on missing the top but don't see the other end of hitting the bottom. It's always easy to say what you should've done when you see everything in hindsight. It'd be like feeling bummed you missed the lottery after the numbers are drawn. You didn't have the same information in the past.

Ditto. Probably a bit more, there was a time where I was buying considerable amounts of drugs for college students. So with BTC at 40k I've easily spent over 1M+ in today's prices. Course it would be cool if I had it now, but again, in that mindset I probably would have sold at 500, 1000, 10000 since I was working bullshit dead end jobs. When money is sparse, you don't think of what it could be in 7 years, you wanna burn it

first time I ever heard the word Bitcoin was in 2012 in relation to mining it, probably from /v/ or /g/
didn't know what it was besides some software obviously and didn't pay it any more thought than that
perhaps until I heard about it next in the bubble of late 2013

people don't realize that in the moment you don't think about these things, not in a broader context, not at all, unless they become something later

I even got excited in late 2013 early 2014 about bitcoin and learned then what was thought by many,
that it was an epic darkweb currency that was totally private and basically free to transact anywhere in the world (about a third of that was right)
and I tried looking into it, with the intention of mining it because buying was too opaque and weird and Mt.Gox had scared me off that route anyway,
but as I watched it go down to $800, then $600, then finally $400 I just lost enthusiasm and literally forgot about it

I completely forgot about bitcoin twice as I said above, only in 2017 did I jump back in as soon as word reached my hears and eyes that bitcoin had gone back to $1000
and I realized what was going to happen again (and is happening right now to a new batch of newfags this year, and will likely happen again in another 4 years
[unless there is a 16 year macro cycle wherein the fourth 4 year cycle is overall bearish, but I digress])

been on 4chan since the eternal summer of 2008, which now doesn't seem so new anymore, I shiver

I bought in 2013 and lost money, bought again in 2017 (Ripple and Lumens) and made some money, but sold everything because I felt like crypto was taking over my life and I had to focus on my studies. I graduated last year and found a well-paying job, and got back into crypto just last month because a co-worker talked about how much he had made during this bullrun. At least I have enough disposable income now to put some serious money into it instead of just pocket change, so I hope I'm not too late to make it.
