>> No.2808818

>>2808728
At present, it's not looking like it should split on August 1st. This adoption has been extremely rapid, considering it usually takes mine operators a decent amount of work time and some down-time in order to start signaling something new.

Issues:

ViaBTC will optionally allowed miners to mine ABC. As far as I can tell there isn't significant support for ABC and this is just a failsafe in the event BIP91 doesn't activate. If ABC goes live with a very substantial hashrate, there will be a split. Seems really unlikely (Under 5%)

Slush's pool never formally allowed for SigWit2x INTENTION signalling, on the grounds that there wasn't a formal protocol. Now there's an actual protocol in place- will Slush allow that? Probably? Not that slush's support is really needed for Segwit activation buttt:

There's always the possibility that a few parties defect from the agreement, sending everything into chaos. Will that really happen? I would say it's extraordinarily unlikely.

I think whether or not the 2MB HF happens in 6 months is a little more questionable just given the duration, but that's later down the road.

Keep watching the blocks on Coindance. Get antsy if a mining pool becomes inconsistent with signalling or gets delinquent or makes excuses. Optimistically we should have an 80% threshold signalling by Friday

>> No.2808827

>>2808675
And the Segwit2x client was released less than 24 hours ago. It's just a matter of miners doing maintenance on their pools.

We don't want a fucking block size increase, Satoshi did not intend this and this is stupid, there's no reason to do it, it's a fucking band-aid. It will not solve anything. A 2x increase in transaction throughput is nothing, we need an order of magnitude increase

The people supporting bitmain, block size increase, and segwit2x know nothing about CS and software or evidently the purpose of bitcoin, they want it centralized for some chinese miners

>> No.2810789

>>2810740
The block size should remain the same. That was the plan, and it had been implemented in LTC successfully. Chinese miners got butthurt that they wouldnt be making as much money so they literally forced and unwanted change onto BTC to make more money. Now the miners miners are """standardizing""" on segwit2x, the format that makes them more money, what a surprise.
The miners are gonna keep """standardizing""" every time a new standard comes out that makes them more money. The miners are the tail that wags the dog of BTC now and there's no going back.

>> No.2810828

Wrong, the miners want to increase the blocksize to BLOCK SEGWIT , an actual increase in the blocksize will LOWER fees for everyone. that is GOOD.

and i think EVERYONE can run bitcoin even with 4mb blocksize.

Now, to continue increasing the blocksize it's another problem entirely that i do not support.

Because we need to DEVELOP SEGWIT SERVICES. and see how it goes.

100% wrong. Satoshi hastily added a block size limit to stop spam attacks. Since Bitcoins were worthless at the time it was cheap to overload the network. He's intention was to later increase the block size when transaction fees would make spam attacks unsustainable for the attacker.

I sold when I realised I can't afford to lose this money. I brought back in with the amount I can afford to lose. I regret selling but really, its pretty good not having to stress about this shit, I got a little bit in the game, if I lose it I wouldnt care. Ive got some cash on the exchange, not a lot but Ill buy if it drops again. I dont think it will. 12 hours after I sold, the miners started signalling and I realised Im an idiot who doesn't actually know whats going on.

because intentions are cheap and actually signalling it forces them to lock in what is, from the miners perspective, undesirable code.

To me this feels like a fucking hostage negotiation where the chinese miners have all the hash rate and coins and there's just some fucking yankees screaming segwit2x and shitting everywhere. If I were a chink, I would definitely fucking "intend" to segwit and then say screw you, and buy up all the cheap bitcoins in the aftermath. BTC doesn't fucking lose all trust; you just fucking fail to understand that the only card in BTC-core's hand is "dev", whereas the chinese pools have "hardware", "user base", "copy of dev's code". BTC doesn't lose trust because it becomes BTC-ABC, it just becomes more centralized as a chinese crypto.

And this is the fucking least healthy "recovery" i've seen since 2009; there's literally not been one fucking wave of downside pressure since 1830 - if that doesn't feel somewhat suspicious, as if somebody is purposefully pulling back on selling when the market shows weakness and then only resuming selling when there is strength, then you're just too fucking stupid to be in this /biz/.

Didn't you know? China is cashing out.

I said this over a year ago when the uptrend was just beginning and cleared $600 for the first time.

The waves we saw in 2014 and 2015 that returned to sideways in between were big bags being filled for dirt cheap.

Now the holders of that coin have driven the prices high and are whipping people into a frenzy of moon! moon! $5k tomorrow! in order to get idiots to buy those huge bags at these prices.

Once they've unloaded enough the price will doomsday again, leaving all those new bagholders either stranded high or panic selling in a landslide.

My trade bots are ready for this rocket crash. Lets blow this thing already.

Agreed; but I don't think they're gonna wash their hands of crypto; they'll move the capital back in when prices are low or if they don't like bitcoin it'll go to a new coin, in which case the entire crypto market will be shitty for years.

The email he used to create that account was recycled. Someone used that to gain access and, although that person didn't use the account for any malicious purpose, it should be considered compromised.
As Satoshi is a fictional person, he is for all intents and purposes dead.

Nobody is going to moon bitcoin for you in 3 months when the news coverage cycle is screaming "hard fork segwit hard fucking fork fork your brains out" and the best response anyone can say is "it's ok, we're gonna segwit AND THEN fork your brains out". In the impending bear market some shit exchange like poloniex will say "no more withdrawals" and then the shit really hits the fan.

Oh for sure its just another move on the chess board. But they will dramatically reduce their holdings and then attempt to trigger a panic sale to bring about another bear market so they can buy it all back for 1/3rd what they sold it for.

I rather doubt it. Organized movements would be way too easy for regulators to disrupt, and too likely to leak information to outsiders that undermine its movement.

No, its just groups of investors doing what would produce the maximum possible profit. If you're smart you can identify what they have in mind and enjoy it. If not, they take your money you lose.
