One wild speculation I like is that Satoshi is Curtis Yarvin (Mencious Moldbug).

He has the technical know how to write a program like Bitcoin (he developed Urbit), he’s a Sperg who’s forgotten more about Austrian economics than any of us will ever learn and at the time Bitcoin was being developed he was unemployed and doing his own “self-directed PhD”.

Also, in his early writings in Unqualified Reservations he makes several hypothetical ways to solve all the economic problems facing society (many of which are just round about ways of describing bitcoin). And then in later posts he talks about how the invention of bitcoin makes most of his solutions unnecessary.

It’s obviously probably not the case at all, but it is fun to speculate wildly about who Satoshi is.

The fiction of Satoshi lives on in an idealised world of dreams and ideology, whereas Back lives in reality and must adapt. Back compromising on the initial goals set out by the bitcoin whitepaper is NOT an indicator that he is not Satoshi.
