Study what motivates you, anon. Disregard >>27975230 because the market's already stuffed with halfway decent STEM majors and the vast majority of them are miserable. What society needs these days are, in fact, musicians, artists, poets and dreamers. Pretty gay, but it's the truth of things since the STEM meme drew tons of white guys away from fields that actually aid culture in some tangible way. So again, I'd say you should go into what you love, and I guarantee you'll find a job in that field when you leave - it might not be an $80k/yr job, but that's what Crypto's for, yeah?

Heck, get a History degree. Working as a curator at the museum is pretty great.

study CS, then self-study through summer and this semester to get as many internships as you can and eventually work for a top tier company. it's literally the only good STEM major and will let you become financially independent in your 30s by waging
other STEM majors are jokes that seem useful because of the STEM meme, especially pure sciences and math, but in reality people who major in this shit need to be geniuses or will end up having to do consulting (which sucks but at least pays decently) or something entirely different

If you're an unironic genius or going to ivy league or already rich then study some cool shit like history, poly sci, philosophy.

Otherwise difficult fundamental STEM degrees open a lot of doors.
EE, ME, Physics, Math, comp sci,.

Doesn't matter. Out in the real world it's mostly who you know, not what you studied. There are CEOs with a Bachelor of Arts. Of course the higher you go the more important it gets to have some decent credentials, but you'll find there are a whole lot of really incompetent people at all levels of virtually any organization and they get there just by having good people skills. Work on your ability to network and schmooze people and your major might as well be irrelevant.

honestly though if your teacher friends don't have anchors weighing them down to the US they should look for overseas teaching jobs. My best advice is to look up unemployment and salary statistics instead of trusting rumors from retards. And consider double majoring in to wildly different things, companies e.g. love humanities majors who can program.

I know "do what you love" has a bad rep nowadays, but it really is the way to go if you're passionate about something. The top 5-10% of any field can generally find some way to support themselves with their chosen major (although there are still some majors like fine arts that will never make huge money, but that's okay). I have an acquaintance with a medieval studies degree that now writes novels, and a architect friend that is actually making pretty good money at a firm in montreal, living the yuppie dream.
Personally, I fell for the STEM meme. First degree was biochem, which was rewarding but ultimately not worth it. I am currently back in school for comp sci but I can already see the same signs of oversaturation that hit life sciences fifteen years ago. Yes the tech industry is a growth industry, but a lot of that growth is a bubble and it doesn't mean that every bootcamp cooder will get a job. Lots of my mediocre classmates have struggled to find work.
If you passionate about something (have done it with a reasonable degree of intensity and interest for >5 years), major in that.
If you don't have a passion and are high IQ, either do CS or learn solidity/haskell/caml and write smart contracts or make a shitcoin.
If you are low IQ, do a commerce/business or IT degree.

>I am currently back in school for comp sci but I can already see the same signs of oversaturation that hit life sciences fifteen years ago
i don't disagree that we are in a bubble of sorts, but the difference is that with tech you have very low overhead and startup costs, not nearly the same for life sciences. tech has plenty of room to grow and absorb other industries that are not yet fully integrated. i mean in some ways blockchain is an example of this with tech and finance

In businesses it's a mix of communication, marketing and sales. Shit like finding potential B2B customers in Germany, updating the company's website and social media, negotiating with suppliers, adjusting a marketing campaign to work better in German-speaking countries, etc.
In gubment it's all sorts of random shit.
And some people get weird jobs, I know one chick who gets paid to "research" the German book market for a publisher... her day job is reading modern German literature and trying to find out if any of it would sell well here if it was translated.
