majority of supply is locked into delegations and indexers, right now about 2 billion is locked with about 3 billion released (so that's 2/3 of all tokens locked right now, giving GRT effectively a supply of 'only' 1 billion). The rest of the tokens will unlock in the upcoming years, but if the Graph project works then those too will end up in indexes and delegations. If Graph doesn't work, then the token will be worthless anyway, regardless of how little or how many there are.

Even using GRT's fully released supply, that's $28 per token. Let's assume GRT has minted 20 billion by the time it gets that market cap, that's still $14 per token. If GRT works (combined with rampant speculators) it can absolutely hit $3. I personally don't doubt that GRT will hit $3. Remember, with most of the tokens locked, speculators can drive GRT pretty high. We could see something ridiculous like $100 GRT some day. If you pay devs to make a solution, you could end up with one that is subpar or you may not end up with a solution at all. You're not considering that every new token rewarded through delegation brings your average cost per closer and closer to zero. So even if the price stays exactly the same, your APY relative to your initial investment literally doubles.
