CORPORATIONS WILL NO LONGER BE SUBSERVIENT TO THE INTERESTS OF GOVERNMENTS. GOVERNMENTS WILL BECOME SUBSERVIENT TO THE INTERESTS OF CORPORATIONS.

We are going backwards, yet also going forwards. We are becoming the very cyberpunk dystopia we have learned to love to hate. This is our future now.

You're missing the underlying context here which is that unlike the feudal systems of the past, they didn't have the industrialized technocratic nightmare tools to control and influence the populace on a mass and increasingly efficient systematic scale never seen before. THEREIN lies the issue and fear here.

Imagine a feudal system with no checks or balances, purely at the total and utter whim of corporations who have absolutely no beholden loyalty to you, but where you have full unyielding loyalty to them, either through various forms of money/debt slavery, mental manipulation, social conditioning, coercion, manufactured dependency, etc. with nobody to tell them no or keep them in check in any way whatsoever.
