27864847 No.27864847 [Reply] [Original]

Now that reef is recovering from another ATH as Binance's trading competition is under way it's time for another Reef research thread!

Last thread (>>27685209) was my first time doing DD on the project. To begin this thread let's summarise some key points of the whitepaper where reef is attempting to differentiate:

* CeX and DeX aggrigation for liquidy (think 1inch), yield farming and asset management (kind of like TokenSets or Harvest Finance)
* AI, Machine Learning and Financial Theory to automatically select which yield farm and balance portfolios to maximise risk-reward.
* Portfolio analysis including MPT and Factor Analysis and control panel (think Zapper) to help users make informed decisions

The ~wh~litepaper outlines the release of an "demo and initial implementation" on ETH1.0 and move towards a Polkadot parachain.

So perhaps the most interesting differentiator for this project is integrating CeX liquidity. This would explain the relationship with Binance. To be clear investing in this token is speculating on a future product, there's going to be inherent risk if the product doesn't meet expectations.

There's a few things I'd like to look at for this or future threads.

* Staking
* Schedule
* History of the team
* Security Audit
* Medium articles
* Twitter
* Understanding Polkadot

I'd appreciate any anons to look over my work, fill in some gaps and correct me when I'm wrong.

So this (https://medium.com/reef-finance/presenting-reef-staking-on-unifarm-by-opendefi-with-upto-250-apy-1cdb7e26dbe2)) is the article for staking. As far as I know there was no indication of Binance staking and until they release their product on polkadot there is no native staking.

Since nobody replied to me here (>>27691877) about staking I'm going to test this for myself. You can follow along at home.

> Analytics Engine DeFi modules
I have no idea what this is talking about, but this was pre ~wh~litepaper

> DeFi Classification Indexer
This would come under 2.2 Augmented Decision Making/2.3 Smart Asset Management. From the wording in the litepaper this is most likely some form of 2.3.2 Factor Analysis. It would be expected this is part of the offchain AI/ML oracle.

> Basket Engine Prototype
Baskets are mentioned across the whitepaper, but given the context this may also refer to the Reef Intelligence Engine AI/Ml solution as mentioned in 2.2.1 and beyond.

> Reef Architecture Design (v1)
Seems to refer to figure 2 in the litepaper (image if you're lazy here >>27695556) of the dot token flow.

> Ethereum DeFi protocols integration
Seems to refer to their "demo and initial implementation".

>> No.27869915

Denko speaks is ok on interviews and seems to have a cool understanding of crypto in general and believes in what he is doing.
He at least has a programming background because I saw a user by his name answering some questions about Angular/Ionic on stackoverflow. Also, he mentioned something about NP complexity in some interview, so he seems to have a C.S background.

That being said, he does look like that smart kid from school. I hope it goes well, but being a dev myself, I've seen how shitty most of the devs perform when put in management positions.

> Fundraising
Details can be found here (https://research.binance.com/en/projects/reef-finance)) and investors on their site. Well go into this on the next post since I'd like to attach more images.

> Initial Marketing Activities
Well have a look at their medium, twitter and telegram later.

> Reef Aggregation Layer
This probably is the start of 2.1 Global Liquidity Aggregator.

> Ethereum DeFi protocol integrations (v2)
Without details it difficult to say what's been done here but an educated guess is that this is plumbing to use other DeXs as liquidy. We can get an idea of what's required and the work needed by looking at 1inch's contract (https://github.com/1inch-exchange/1inchProtocol/tree/master/contracts/interface))
By taking a rough estimate the contracts/interface folder saw its first commit on 14 Dec 19 and it's last on 11 Aug 20 - 7 months. In this time they produced 16 integrations, a rate of just over 2 integrations a month.
This is an oversimplification but assuming a similar rate we should expect the demo to have a similar number of DeX liquidy sources. In theory that's not that important for liquidity as locked $ in DeXs also seem to follow Zipf's law - the top 5 DeXs on defipulse.com add up to 84.4% of the total liquidity.

> Analytics Engine Indexers (v2)
More AI/ML magic, not much to comment.

Assuming tokens in Team, Ecosystem Development and Foundation haven't been touched and the Protocol Emissions & Liquidity Rewards have been distributed, that still puts about half of all circulating reef from the private sale. Once again:

To put this into perspective for ever 1 Reef you own this month it'll be equivalent to 0.825 Reef the next month (in proportion to available market cap). This may raise some eyebrows! All of this once again calls into question the accuracy of Binance's site or how the max supply actually works and what we own?

Adding the total supply * decimals across ETH and BNB and dividing by the Max Supply we have:

(2418726080.291136076461516550+330229406)/20000000000=13.7%, far below the supposed 22% that should be in circulation. This is somewhat suspicious, if anyone in this thread is willing to help out maybe they can ask what's up with this on the reef telegram?

Nice thread, OP. Good job on the research.

There's only one thing that bugs me: there's no information that I can find on the team or the current state of development. Just a roadmap with a very aggressive schedule. Have you found any information on the team or the current state of development? I have only seen the founder mentioned, Denko Mancheski. I don't see any details on a github repository or any developers listed. It looks like so far this is just a token and there hasn't been any actual code written. Big red flag for me.

Here is the medium article (https://reefdefi.medium.com/halborn-announces-reef-finance-security-audit-f6b826f4d313)) which links the specific audit (https://github.com/HalbornSecurity/PublicReports/blob/master/Solidity%20Smart%20Contract%20Audits/Reef_Finance_SmartContract_Halborn_Report_V1_1.pdf).). This is the most we've seen on the smart contract side as their github repos are private (https://github.com/reef-defi).).

The most revealing are the files names of the contracts at the time:

> * ReefBalancer.sol
> * ReefBasket.sol
> * ReefLiquidityBond.sol
> * ReefMooniswapV1.sol
> * ReefToken.sol
> * ReefUniswap.sol
> * ReefVaultsBasket.sol

> * ReefFarming.sol
> * ReefStaking.sol

We can also see the token contract on etherscan (https://etherscan.io/address/0xfe3e6a25e6b192a42a44ecddcd13796471735acf#code)) and bscscan (https://bscscan.com/address/0xf21768ccbc73ea5b6fd3c687208a7c2def2d966e#code).).

The audit provides links to the private repo, and we get to see some snippets of code. Looking at the suggestions what's been found looks like it came from an automated tool, and the lack of timeframe for assessment (which the company provides in other audits) does not give me the greatest of confidence.

Here we can guess a list of DeX integrations: Balancer, MooniswapV1 and Uniswap. Compared to my estimation using 1inch (>>27871712), this is somewhat disappointing. Ethereum DeFi protocols integrations (v1) Q2 2020 + Ethereum DeFi protocols integrations (v2) Q3 2020 is roughly 6 months. Having only 3 integrations compared to 16 puts into question the scope of the project (will it take this long to add a new DeX going foward?) or the experience of the team.

This is the risk you take for investing in something this early, it might even take the next market cycle before we see a further x10.

>>27878332
I think you've got the wrong idea, the circulating supply of this month increases by 17.5% (Feb Circulating * 1.175 = March Circulating). Out of the total supply that's only 4%. You can run the numbers from (https://research.binance.com/en/projects/reef-finance)) yourself.

Thank you for calling me out on that, but where did you get your number for the Feb and March circulating supply? I've double-checked my %s and I haven't made a mistake copying them.

You correctly note that:
21.87% (Feb %) * 1.175 =/= 26.51% (Mar %), in fact the correct value should be (26.51%/21.87%=1.21).

For my claim that 1 Reef in Feb is 0.82 Reef in Mar I simply calculate (21.87%/26.51%).

I think your mistake is that the increase in circulating supply is different month from month. I didn't really pay attention to this but it should be obvious given the shape of the graph.

For Jan I get 19.83% which is 3966000000 Reef. Jan to Feb is therefore only a 10.29% gain.

I think it's disappointing that you think this is FUD just because there's evidence to suggest short term speculative price could possibly be influenced by the release of tokens sold to investors much below market value. The %s are plain to see, and I think I posted the same pic included in my last thread. I even disregarded them in my initial calculation on CIRCULATING SUPPLY.

>>27873733
>Assuming tokens in Team, Ecosystem Development and Foundation haven't been touched and the Protocol Emissions & Liquidity Rewards have been distributed, that still puts about half of all *CIRCULATING* reef from the private sale.

(3+1.71)/(3+1.71+1.43+2.08+1.68)=47.58

That's assuming the protocol emission and liquidity reward has been distributed (which I see no evidence of). Note this is reduced to 35.83% in March. I don't think it's unreasonable to keep have these numbers in mind as there's little distribution until the demo is released.

We're talking short term price speculation here, what's really the point of purchasing Reef if its price is going to go down in the short term when you could have made gains on BTC or even ETH and brought more Reef?

> Ecosystem Development 12.40%
> Foundation 17.57%

It's not at all clear to me what kind of distribution we'll see on these. You'd expect from the DOT diagram that one of these should be sustained via payments, but there's currently (perhaps rightfully) no information about the tokenomimcs on the DOT parachain.

>>27883475

> Reef is a decentralized, non-custodial protocol; assets arecontrolled by the users themselves and not stored on the platform.

Even the example project Advcach has a centralized login. This goes against what's written on https://www.binance.com/en/access as under the "How does Binance Access work?" section both explanations suggest the creation of a Binance account.

In combination with their release on the Binance Smart Chain this the strongest bullish indicator I've seen. Just image a product that has good liquidity even on smaller pairs (thanks to the CeX) as well as low fees and fast confirmation times (thanks to BSC).

> 2021 Q1 WIP
> Reef Basket Engine (v1)
> The first version of the engine is static

This suggests we're not going to have the the Smart Assert Management techniques of 2.3. This would imply the following features listed in 3.2 are fixed:

> 1. Changing asset basket structure (fees, composition, or creation);
> 2. Raising or lowering the reserve limit of a market; adjusting yield distribution and interest rates;
> 3. Altering pool attributes, such as voting power time function, pool’s dynamic interest % calculation for staking;

This would put it in line with TokenSets (https://www.tokensets.com/explore?show=portfolios, https://defipulse.com/set-protocol)) minus the social trading feature.

> Reef Client
We've supposedly seen demos of their Client (aka website) in YouTube videos. I can't comment because I've not watched any yet and If there's any kind anons please link them to me.

> Yield Engine
> Powered by the modified Analytics Engine
This is 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 using what they originally called the Reef Intelligence Engine to optimize pic included, using AI and ML to predict yield using market sentiment. The proof will really be in the pudding when it comes to this one as the benchmark can be found in a similar product which doesn't use AI and ML - harvest.finance.

> Fiat Gateways Integration
> Simplex - https://www.simplex.com/
As is often shilled such a feature would make the platform user-friendly.

This pretty much covers the roadmap of features to expect in the demo that'll be released in Q1. Work on the Polkadot implementation has also started but from the roadmap it seems unlikely that we'll see anything until at least Q3.

It's called risk adjusted returns.

Even with BTC and ETH at their ATH most would agree that it is likely that BTC will reach over $100k and ETH $2000 this market cycle. On the other hand REEF is a highly speculative investment with no working product has just made an ATH a few hours ago. With Binance's incentivized trading I'd expect to see much greater volatility and therefore much greater risk investing in REEF at the moment. It's not as if I don't have a large investment in Reef already either.

Fuck how you feel about the thread, I'm doing this for myself so make sure I've DMOR. So now that it has been brought up, let's take a break and look at the technicals. What are the possibilities for the price of REEF?

Crypto prices are still very dependent on the movement of BTC and to a lesser extent ETH. As suggested by >>27888073 and >>27888782 it is possible that the market cycle is over.

The following models may suggest otherwise:
https://www.moonmath.win/
https://digitalik.net/btc/power_law_oscillator
https://www.lookintobitcoin.com/charts/mvrv-zscore/
https://www.lookintobitcoin.com/charts/rhodl-ratio/
https://www.lookintobitcoin.com/charts/pi-cycle-top-indicator/

On the other hand none of these indicators discount the possibility of BTC correcting as it's done in 2017/18, or performing another 2013/14. If this happens inevitably REEFBTC's ratio will suffer.
BTC making another parabolic move up will also see ALTs retrace or follow along against BTC.

Anons >>27887939 and >>27887216 also point the gains the RBC has been making whilst Reef has been stagnant. Unlike Reef RBC has a working product and released their roadmap on the 15, product on the 28th. These correspond well with the price actions that have occurred.

* RBC has a better website
* RBC has a more experienced team
* RBC's medium articles have more substance
* RBC is not planning on CeX integration
* RBC is not planning on Yield Farming other tokens
* RBC is not planning on implementing TokenSets like functionality
* RBC is not planning on adding AI/ML
* RBC also has order book based functionality
* RBC has better token distribution
* RBC has a smaller fully diluted market cap
* RBC has plans for anonymous trading
* Reef plans to integrate with more L2 solutions
* Both plan to include polkadot integration
* RBC has *much* lower liquidly.

RBC looks to be a lower risk but equal reward.

I knew little about RBC until I looked at the whitepaper today. I've not seen a list of differences yet and I should have used "Reef plans" instead of "RBC is not planning".

It's a hot take, perhaps it would be more truthful to say less risk / less reward. In my opinion a great deal of value is found in the shared features of RBC - polka-dot ecosystem and liquidity aggrigation across multiple chains and DeXs. Who's really going to be counting the difference between x20 and x25?

I also still question if Reef's Zapper/1INCH(without chi but with CeX liquidity)+TokenSets+Harvest.Finance model really adds that much more value in the current defi ecosystem? Given that they plan to slowly increase volume this also means whatever batching the global liquidity aggrigator will pale compare to the fees.

Both of you seem to hate RBC so mind giving me some reasons why instead of just calling it manipulation and a scam?
