But I do think there is some merit to holding something strictly as a hedge and waiting for a dip. Like, gold/silver/platinum, VIX/SPY shares, etc. You might be waiting for a while though

If enough people have the same plan as you it won't crash as much as you think it will.

Ironically the more people that arbitrage bitcoin's volatility, the less volatile it will become. Lower highs, and higher lows.

In 2018, bitcoin had only a fraction of its current market reach. This does not take a rocket scientist to figure out, either. If you live in a medium to large sized city, then just look around you and take notice of all of the difference places where bitcoin is accepted now.

In 2018, there was one bitcoin ATM in a 100 mile radius of me. However, just yesterday I noticed a 70+ year old woman buying bitcoin from a kiosk at my closest gas station.

Adoption rates have everything to do with how far a coin like BTC can drop. If more people believe that it is worthwhile to use as a means to pay for goods and services, then the price will continue to rise as less and less coins are created every year.

It'll have its dips, but the liklihood of a similar crash that we saw in 2018 is diminishing.

Just buy in whenever you feel like it, then put a little bit in every week or month. If it makes you feel better, set some aside for when this mystical crash you're imagining happens
