In France we used to have the ECU, a 25 gram coin of 90% pure silver.
5 franc face value, 1 franc is 5 grams of coin or 4,5 grams of silver.
These were made between 1790 and 1890, a hundred years where monetary inflation expanded only at the same rate of the above ground silver supply.
Then in the 1910's they made a series of coins, (semeuses) with 2 franc, 1 franc and 0.5 franc denomination. These weighed still 10,5 and 2.5 grams but now only with 83.5% silver content. Thus in those 20 to 30 years, coins saw about 7% debasement.
Then by the 60's a new 5 franc piece was made, this time also 0.835 grams but only 12 grams of coin.
So 1 franc no longer was 5 grams either, it now was 2,4 grams holding only 2 grams of silver.
A bit later in the late 60s the old standard coin was minted again 25 grams and again 90% pure but this time it was a 10 franc piece.
After nixon went off the gold standard and severed france from it with it, these coins went quickly out of circulation as silver prices rose.
France tried to issue another round of a slightly larger version (30gram vs 25) and this time slapped 50 francs on it (although by the original standard a coin this size should only be 6 francs). But even this was no match for the silver boom and this was France's last effort to have coins backed by the metal value it contained.

So to recap. For 100 years a 5 franc coin was 5 francs. Then 70 years later that coin was already 10 francs
10 years after that it already was 41,66 francs. (25/30*50) and today you pay about 105 francs equivalent fo the silver in that coin.

This comes out to about 4,5% debasement per year the past 50 years on top of the expanding silver supply. So this comes out at 6% and that has been the rate of monetary inflation in modern times.
A rate that makes sure to keep you enslaved.

Silver is not an investment, it's a savings account.
