I was on an industry call the other day regarding whether the main derivatives industry body should respond to the UK treasury’s consultation in blockchain.

Some guy asked the question and disappointingly, it seems they are not aware of any widespread industry effort to look at DLT settlement (though they do believe there are private projects at individual banks). The lack of broad industry movement and agreement on a path forward is concerning. So much so, that I’m personally pushing back my timetable.

I would note though:
The tying of XRP to derivatives is and has always been, bullshit stemming from a lack of understanding as to how derivatives work from a practical perspective. Derivatives are just a series of bank to bank payments, so, to the extent relevant to XRP, they fall under that heading (interbank payments).
The derivatives market and body therefore would not necessarily be aware of developments in the same way that payments, transactional banking, technology or operations financial industry bodies would be. So it may be that my pessimism is unfounded.

Regardless, XRP is the standard and WAGMI

Not an insider - I’ve been here for a long time and post often (derivatives lawyer guy). Whenever I have any relevant information (good or bad), I let you all know.
It was an ISDA call on the treasury consultation, with 20 banks as well as some buy side firms, law firms and tech companies. The upshot was that other than smart contracts (which isda is working on), all other uses for crypto are all very opaque right now, with banks testing/working/considering in private and no consensus as to a way forward. The buy side had concerns about implementing new tech. Try tend to be a lot smaller so would find it more difficult to switch to a new standard (though that doesn’t really affect XRP as there’s no reason it can’t run in tandem with current systems for a while).
The derivatives market dwarfs the FX market. Also, similar to derivatives (and including Fx derivs), FX as it relates to XRP is just one or a more payments. So again, it’s interbank transfers that matter for our purposes.

No banks are looking at crypto for derivatives. I think between smart contracts (which will be whatever ISDA blesses) and XRP (for payments), you’re pretty much covered - because again, derivatives are really just a series of payments (+ a legal agreement determining what those payment obligations are).

Given the above, I’m not sure flare will have much relevance to banks, at least in the short to medium term (out to 5-10 years).

My bet on flare is that it will kill ETH. That’s the real value in my view. It’ll serve the decentralised/retail market only (for the short to medium) but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to be very, very valuable. Once you have Flare properly up and running, there is no reason for ETH to continue to exist other than for legacy projects (which will likely try to port at the first opportunity anyway).

I didn’t mention XLM, but my view on that is a little different. I think currency coins (those that aim to act as alternatives to fiat), will be regulated out of existence in most of the G20/30. XLM’s hope therefore will be to act as a base layer for CBDCs or as a third world currency. Both of which would see a decent price (in the 10s of dollars).

I should clarify on flare: when I day decentralised/retail, I expect the segment to grow, but don’t ever think it’ll be anything more than a niche segment (ie the way things are now, just slightly bigger). Frankly, if it ever started to get really big, it’d rightly be regulated out of existence (at least as far as derivatives and anything more complicated than trading one token for another).

Don’t know much about rsr, but I think in any case we have differing views of the future (I don’t believe Fiat is imploding:hyperinflation is coming), so I perhaps wouldn’t look at it in the same way as you even if I did investigate.
