BOE keeps rates insanely low - what is the malfunction in the economy where these ridiculously low rates and flood of money do not blow up the system?

The US debt is gone exponential, yet everyone just keeps zombie walking waiting for their stimmy checks. Even if you make money negative rates will be a constant drain.

I have been following this bullshit since 2007. I consider those that say we are going to have inflation, deflation, stagflation, biflation. The ones that claim we are going to have inflation and hi velocity claimed so due to the $4T injected since 2008. I understand the Gov is hiding inflation (going back and recalculating, hedonics and other nonsese) but considering the massive new fiat injections in to the financial system we dont seem to be getting the corresponding velocity spikes. What gives?

I am not rooting for doom and gloom, a crash or hyperinflation, but based on all the blabbering about what is going to happen if we do this or that, none of that seems to be coming to fruition, in either camp.

If velocity has not picked up by now, why would it ever pick up?

Nobody knows.
Maybe the reality is that the Keynesians really did find a way to keep printing money infinitely without bringing down the entire economy or causing a hyperinflationary crisis. Maybe this time it will work long term and we're the ones in the wrong, thinking we could predict the future by learning from the past.

We live in clown world. Anything is possible. Maybe Bitcoin will hit $1 million and Gold will go to $0 instead. At this point, the most bizarre scenario possible isn't just a thing of fiction but a real possibility.

Time is not being sufficiently considered in these types of statements. Opportunity cost, time value of money, etc. make it extremely expensive to invest in gold/silver and mining stocks and getting zero or negative returns. For every 4750 dollars accounted for in the US financial system there is 1 ounce of silver accounted for in the us financial system - from traders to government vaults to private safes. Without market manipulation and accounting for inflation, the price of silver should unironically be almost $5,000 per troy ounce.

Spot price is set by COMES and COMEX is not a physical market - it's derivatives. So Spot price is the price of derivatives, or paper silver - not the price of physical bullion in your hand.

Yeah, holder of 4000+ ounces of silver here, there is no yield on physical. it just sits there. it is insurance. i sleep very well at night though. physical pays no interest, no dividend. in order to get interest or a dividend you have to accept risk. owning physical metal is pretty low risk. with play money i will invest in stocks. establish a good physical position in the metals first then invest in stocks/ETFs if you feel comfortable. nobody knows when this will all go tits-up so its important to have a revenue stream or another investment that pays out while waiting for silver to appreciate.

>but considering the massive new fiat injections in to the financial system we dont seem to be getting the corresponding velocity spikes
Money velocity is psychological. Printed money has gone primarily into financial assets (stocks, crypto, derivatives, etc.) instead of the actual economy since 2008. When investing in the actual economy seems like a bad RoR, you trade pieces of paper with others who just got handed new printed money. It is a reinforcing spiral.
This concentrates wealth to those who can access these financial assets, and that inflation "trickles down" in things that are purchased across all social classes: health care, education, real estate, child care. Those who cannot access these assets thus see overall deflation from non-productive investment into the greater economy and slowly rising prices. Growing anxiety about "wage stagnation" is one part of this.

I'm looking at AUY specifically. It's got fantastic reserves. 44.6M oz of silver.

I'm guessing that most people will over look this in the event of silver mania due to it having gold in its name. Will smarter investors eventually buy this up, outperforming others?

in the Leadville district in Colorado they're abandoned because of environmental expense mostly. The Black Cloud contains millions of ounces of silver but it bankrupted several huge mining companies with the cost of cleaning up lead and arsenic pollution on the site and in the water.

its both, the modern mining companies often do want to do a better job being less destructive to the environment than their forbears but its mainly down to modern regulation. Here in BC for example, any company taking on a previously active mine must pay for the clean up costs of the previous operations. However the BC government often chips in a lot of help or crediting for things that simply cant be fixed. BGM for example has to try and fix the massive tailings beach in Jack of Clubs lake in Wells BC, but the government recognizes that the contamination is nearly impossible to truely fix so instead will help with monitoring the site and containing any future toxic discharge.

90% of remediation work is water control. You dig trenches to control water flowing off waste piles and channel it to lined containment ponds where it can be treated or allowed to settle. A lot of modern clean up sites build artificial swamps and this does a pretty good job of cleaning up the toxic ARD and sediments. Everything else is building removal and open workings safety related. Maybe tree planting as well.

Personally I only know anything about mining companies so I can always vouch for different metals. Copper will certainly be in even greater demand as electrification develops more and also is an important component in batteries. Zinc is a safe bet -- used everywhere and also might have potential future use in heavy industrial batteries. Gold for inflation, also is nice to have exposure to if the economy shits the bed as it might actually go up fast after an initial crash. Some other ones worth considering are lithium, nickel and cobolt for some of that EV battery action. Lead also remains a decent investment as it is still used in the vast majority of produced batteries.

As for other commodities, I don't have much knowledge but I would say now seems to be a good time to invest in oil.

We're lucky to be in a designated historical preservation district so we tend to fix the buildings and either cap the piles or remove them and replace them with inert piles of rock to simulate the historic look of the mines. We took the EPA to court for years to get them to do this because most of our money comes from tourism related to those old mines and buildings. It'd be a shame to lose something like your pic there.

First link is alright, second link is a godawful price. Unless you want to just buy one for the design, I wouldn't buy it as an investment.
