Here's a tip for your mental well-being.

Just sell.
Don't look at the price, just sell.
Then go out to the store, buy a few beers, some snack.
When you're back, watch a movie and enjoy your day.
Don't think about the stock market anymore, it's not worth it.
It's a rigged game.
You deserve better.
You deserve to be happy.
Even if the stock went up a little, would that make you happy?
No.
Sell.
Put it behind you.

It's over.

I’ve had the idea of always holding AMC since December too. Sure bagholding sucks but that’s why it’s called investing and not betting. I lost money betting but not investing. I bought other half at $9.50 though this Monday at open thinking it'd go back up because of the squeeze. Oh well, still a decent long term investment at that price.

Then they push the release date back. Hollywood themselves are TRYING to kill theaters, intentionally. When AMC fully committed to re-opening last year, WB then immediately announced that all of their upcoming movies would be day one HBO Max releases. Get rid of the middleman. If they open their own streaming service or just sign multi-billion dollar release deals with companies that have streaming services, they make a lot more than just case by case basis rental payments from theaters. Without theaters, they can then raise their streaming prices to whatever they want. Just look at how much Disney+ charged for Mulan. $30 is like the price of two tickets and snacks at a theater and Disney isn't even selling you snacks there, yet they got 100% of the profits from it instead of just the $10 they'd make per ticket from a theater.

Or maybe the studios actually want to get their movies into theaters and they're left guessing like everyone else when this shit is gonna be over. It isn't some nefarious plot to kill theaters, why the fuck would Hollywood want to kill theaters when we both know they make more money on that model? They're all just fucking guessing like the rest of us when the coof will be gone so they can make their money back. The HBO Max thing was an obvious ploy to drive up subscribers for the new service and force Roku to start carrying it
>>27725945
Disney+ tried the premium tier thing for Mulan and it was a huge failure. Audiences have shown they won't pay theater prices to watch a movie in their own homes. Either you keep the theater model alive or the studios just give up on big budget blockbusters altogether because there's no way they make money on dropping those films onto a $10/month subscription service

Your whole family saw the movie for $10 and you still have HBO for the rest of the month. A family of 4 just saved $50 off the ticket price and another $50+ in laughably overpriced concessions, and the experience was infinitely more enjoyable. Nobody is going back.

This. The reason restaurants will never go away is actually the same exact reason streaming is replacing theaters. It's about the proportion of effort needed to enjoy something. Nobody wants to cook and generally food at a restaurant is better than what you can cook if you're not someone who likes to do it. Thus, it is more convenient to go out and eat. But with the brand new movie just released on a streaming service, it would be a lot more costly and more effort to go out to a theater to watch it when you're already sitting there looking at it in your HBO Max/Netflix/Amazon Prime/Hulu/Disney+ queue. Hell, even by this example, the rise of delivery services like Doordash and Grubhub that exist to deliver from restaurants that don't deliver themselves is achieving the same thing for the restaurant industry as streaming is doing for Hollywood. To say anything to the contrary of this is proof of delusional boomers that simply cannot envision or accept change.

>But a recent ruling from a Federal Judge has just given movie theaters hope for survival. For the first time in over 60 years, major studios can own the theaters in which they distribute their films.

>According to Collider, U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres struck down the Paramount Consent Decrees of 1948 in early August 2020. The decrees were antitrust laws instituted to prevent the studios from having a stranglehold on both production and distribution. But in August, Torres ruled that those laws were no longer “in the public interest.”
