Margin is not to buy options. I guess you can buy options on margin but it's pointless because options themselves are leverage over the underlying.
How do you survive a margin call unless you have a shitload of other assets you can sell? With modern brokers I don't think you even get a real margin call, you just get all your positions liquidated at market price when your losses get too big.
