Trying to get a better feel for it before committing to a purchase. When you say "idea of the lens you might want" can you clarify what you mean? Do different lens provide different types of images? Or are you just referring to the specification of the lens (focal length, and maybe someth else?)

There’s diff types of lenses. Fixed, wide angle(interiors and landscape) telephoto (zoom). Fixed lens are cheaper and typically let in more like giving you some great bokeh wide open but they only have one focal length. My favorite lens starting out was a 24-105 f4 L. Not the best in low light but it had large focal range so I can find my shooting style. Right now my favorite lenses are Sony 16-35 gm and the sigma 50mm 1.4 art. Good luck shooting is a lot of fun and opens so many doors. Don’t get caught up in gear unless you’re making money. It can get expensive.

Ahh okay. I think wide angle may be what I'm looking for. Landscapes are definitely my interest. But why do you say that fixed can give great bokeh? Shouldn't you be able to adjust the focal length on the wide angle to get the desired DOF?

DoF come from the aperture + focal length. So if you have a low aperture like a 1.4 or 2.8. Big difference in bokeh in a 35mm 2.8 vs a 200mm 2.8. The dof will be razor thin and blur out the foreground and background. If you kick that up f11. Then the entire image should be in focus anything below 35. Nikkor has a good 14-24 wide angle but it’s pricey. Also a decent fixed 20mm you might like. Once you pick one up it will make more sense.
