Not strictly true, NYSE put GME on the no-short list starting tomorrow (and being put on the list was triggered yesterday), but that only stops them from doing the most aggressive undercutting ladders. They can still do small batch manual ladders at market price. They will be limited, but not strictly stopped. There shouldn't be any huge sudden dips, but they can still try to slowly tank it over the course of a day.
Basically, at this point you might as well do the full retard hold, it'll either take you all the way down or all the way up, and at this point, you've either already fucked yourself or the money you have in there shouldn't really matter. You can, but if you don't know what you're doing, the losses can theoretically go infinite. Normal buys can only lose you what you put in, but a short squeeze could see you lose hundreds or thousands of dollars per share with no way to stop it or know when the losses end.

Prisoner's dilemma.
There are two groups of anons :
weak pussy ass paper hands that set sell limits
wife fucking diamond hands for their diamond dicks chads

Both groups stand to gain the most by not selling
As with forcing dips, hedges are looking to cause chain-reactions of people's sell orders to segment the squeeze. For a rate of change in price that will be asymptotic, *any* sell order will cause breaks in the slope.

In the extreme of the hypothetical, if all holders of share refused to name a sell price, there's no telling how high the price could go. But that is an impossibility with humans in the mix. There will always be a non-zero number of paper hands, as well as whales just looking to play it safe, the question is where they will cause breaks.

Here is the prisoners' move :
When the squeeze begins, have no sell limit set
Allow it to go past your target price by a generous % of it
Once it does set a sell trigger for if it drops down to the target, but waits so long as the price rises
Now you are dialed-in at your price while not reducing the squeeze for other prisoners
You can now roll through orders tailing behind the rise, if you want to net more than your target
And done this way, the squeeze won't stop until loss is maximized on the buying end because nobody is selling until
Sell behind the squeeze, not ahead of it
