I only spent 5 years in college, since the first 2 were wasted in accounting and a bunch of my courses didn't overlap with my current degree. After I graduated I immediately started working and studied for my investment licenses while on the job, which equated to about 3-4 months of constant work and studying after hours. Not too bad all things considered.

Not really, its 100% my own fault. My main problem is having only done one internship because I was working as a teaching assistent since the third year of my bachelors. Now I cant get an industry job because of lacking experience and open jobs in research (which I would be more interested in anyways) are very rare so I didnt have any luck here either.
Actually I already had secured a job at a Japanese university (I'm german) last year in march but it got canceled because of COVID.

The reason I say that it's safer is in terms of landing a decent job straight out of college.
There's a high dropout rate for Forestry students as well (not as much as 50% though lol)
because most people who go into it either don't realize it involves math and statistics, or think it's just another version of Environmental Science.
Forestry is a mish mash of number crunching, trying to keep 1000s of acres of forest from succumbing to disease, making sure that deer and bugs don't eat all the saplings, and making sure the trees you want are able to grow back after a harvest.
There's a lot of different disciplines involved, and there's only so many employers that hire forestry majors.
