I figure this would be the next best place to ask ( >>>/g/41325649 ) , but didn't notice a questions thread for this board.

So like my last post stated, I've recently purchased a monitor (like, < 2 hours ago from this post). Thing is, I was a dumbass and didn't check the seller's feedback before I bought it. Now I'm pretty sure it's a scam, and I hope I can still salvage my cash. The monitor is from china and even the seller is chinese, but I'm still 80% sure it's fake.
I don't see any option to simply cancel the order, so the only option I see is to contact the seller and "agree not to complete the transaction." (Like a scam artist is going to just say, "yeah bro, I understand")

Do any of you have experience with scams? Did you get your money back? The monitor itself was $40 and shipping was $40. If I cancel the purchase, will I lose the shipping fee? Any advice is welcome, including "you're fucked, dwi"... If you believe that's all I can look forward to.

So wait, you were willing to pay the $80 total? to begin with?

did you pay with a credit card?

If you did you may be okay. What a lot of these "credit cards r evul" plebeians don't realize is that a lot of credit cards afford you all kinds of consumer protections.

As far as ebay, idk since I haven't bought anything through them in over a decade.

Yeah, if it was a legitimate item.

call your bank and tell them you didn't make that purchase

2 weeks later your money will be returned

you have 0 liability

Well, it's not quite that simple.

You still have many of the same protections vs fraud with a debit card as a credit card. The major difference is that with a credit card, you can dispute a fraudulent charge and not pay it, while a debit card will take the money first and make you dispute the charge for months to get the money back.

And, with that 20% possibility that the seller ISN'T a scammer... Then what?

I wont have to go through any funds to dispute this will I? If that's the case, I'd be better off just accepting my losses.

you have 30 days from the day of the purchase to make a claim with your bank for the 0 liability clause to be effective

that's completely false; you don't know what you are talking about

Cool, the earliest shipping estimate is about 18 days, but the latest is May 27. That relieves some of my worries.

Tell me what I should expect/do, anon.

ebay is pretty good about scammers. Most of the times you get ebay purchase protection. If you don't get your monitor in the allowed time contest the purchase through ebay (don't remember terminology).

I don't think you will loose your money. I had a chinese purchase ($400 or so) go bad (missing expensive part of order upon delivery). Started process and seller fedexed me a replacement directly. They lost money on the transaction, but in the end I'm happy and left positive feedback. I don't know if their mistake was deliberate or accidental and I don't care. Just be patient and use the established procedures.

Sounds good, thanks for the input.
Right now, I think all I'll be doing is waiting for things to pan out. Since I've awoke from yesterday, I've been feeling somewhat optimistic about the whole ordeal.
