Theater profit margins are extremely slim, because production companies take a huge cut of the profit. Most production companies still rely on theaters for revenue.

AMC was around $12 before the pandemic. Debt+lock-downs fucked them in the ass. The recent excitement over their stock gave them a significant amount of desperately needed financial breathing room. That combined with post-pandemic customer enthusiasm will likely take their stock back to $12 at the very least -- likely more, for a short period of time. They are emerging from the pandemic as one of the only theater chains to have weathered the storm largely intact. It's a good position to be in.

Theaters really only profit on snack sales. The ticket sales all go to the film studios as their cut on top of the initial cost theaters pay to lease the film from them to begin with. In the long run, theaters actually completely fucked themselves by going all in on serving alcohol and food like pizza and sandwiches instead of just candy and popcorn because that brings with it the full overhead costs of a bar and restaurant (aka the hardest industry to make money in and survive bar none). They are beholden to the same regulations as a restaurant or bar as well, which means health inspections which can incur a fuck ton of fines if the sanitation and food prep standards aren't maintained. I expect going forward a lot of theaters are going to fully drop these sorts of options from their menus in order to save themselves.
