Although ada epochs are only useful in this regards for future sharding updates where lots of stake pools may not have the same view on the network. In avax, all the voting power is on a single subnet (P-chain).

Cost, staking is a cost to validator nodes.

There needs to be no slashing or penalty for "double spending" attacks, if a node does that it wont have any effect at all.
Its not like ada or eth, where a node is selected to be the writer of next block and can then write "double spend", that has to be penalized for making the whole network lose out on a real block.
In AVAX a node lying is just like a biztard going to r/wsb and start streaming "sell sell sell", nobody cares.

Any crypto claiming better tps numbers is giving up on decentralization or security.
