How easy is it to turn around and convert 90% silver to cash?

I've been ordering 90% for the last 36 hours because premiums aren't as atrociously high over spot. Just takes some calculating the silver content.

That said, is it as easy to convert as .999 is?

Or do I just turn around and post it on eBay?

Nothing wrong with having emergency cash in physical bills but it's nothing to show off. We post stacks because it's cool to see what others have. Same with guns. What's special about a spread of $20s and $50s? That was my point, it's flaunting "wealth" in the dumbest possible way when juxtaposed with hundreds of ounces of silver and tens of ounces of gold. Basically the equivalent of printing out my current checking account statement. Sorry if this sounds aggressive or autistic but I really don't get why people like showing that they have a few thousand dollars in cash, it's completely unremarkable and not aesthetic.

Here's my reasoning: Ammunition is relatively cheap right now because people are feeling safe. It's bumped up a bit because people are scared they won't be able to buy as much in the future.

Now, if SHTF, even without people shooting each other, prices for ammunition will skyrocket. People will give you all kinds of shit for a working Hi-Point and a box of 9mm. In that sense, ammunition (in my opinion) will be a much more liquid and a better store of value than metals--you'll always have buyers, and it'll only get more valuable in the future as supplies diminish.

>Question for you precious metal bros...
Is it smarter to buy & hoard physical gold & silver rather than put my money into a bank?

savings accounts are pretty shit where it accumulating/maintaining wealth overtime with interest Unless your stacked already & we all know inflation is higher by the day & hour so your cash is worth less overtime...
I know gold essentially is always on the rise in value stock wise, and silver is supper stable & worth more than it is being sold for in a shtf so to speak...
>So I was just wondering if would be smarter to go dragon mode with my paychecks
>I could just sell some grams of gold for cash at a reputable dealer if I ever need to buy shit.
Also do you know if Gold dealers & sellers will allow you to exchange your oz for grams & bullions of larger sizes similarly to how banks exchange different size bills?

I figured you'd have to pay the normal premium fee if your exchanging to smaller sizes since that's how dealers stay in business, but wouldn't dealers let you trade/exchange up in size for free since your essentially giving them more easily moved stock?

>> No.27452704

Yes and no. Yes for long term savings, as inflation will kill dollars value, but you can’t go 100% all in with your entire savings, or you’ll end up having to sell off your stack at every expense
Have a good amount put away, but be aware that you need to have liquid cash in order to function in society and ya know, buy food and gas and shit

>tfw side charging uppers are going to be great.

In all seriousness though, in the event of complete collapse, i really dont think its going to be like we think it is. A lot of manufacturing will still be around, but rather than be owned by corporations they factories will be taken back by townships/cities. Barter will still happen, these products will still be in demand, and these factories are how various localities will end up securing themselves. Honestly we may see an event where corporations essentially die and we go back to having actual regional specializations.

What I still don't fully understand is why silver would have any value in an SHTF situation. Sure, it's historically always been a decent store of value, but only really because it's shiny--something I don't think people'll care about if the system implodes. oh, i forgot to mention, that unless you're talking about flintlock muskets, black powder guns would be no more useful than smokeless (aside from the relative ease in manufacture of powder) when you're forgetting about the real hiccup - primers. Percussion caps and center fire both need priming compounds and although there are a few bastardized ways of doing it (match heads and .22 nail gun blanks) they are not really consistent. Primers is the #1 holdup in a shtf situation and brass is a heavy second. Honestly some sort of flintlock shotgun would be the ultimate utility weapon in a total dystopian back-to-the-stoneage level collapse. The primer shortage is a massive problem though. Hopefully you save your spents though as they can be reloaded.

PMs have a long historical value and real scarcity. Hard to counterfeit. You can also store a lot of value with relatively little weight/space.

If you wanted to trade someone toilet paper for cans of soup but they didnt want to trade for toilet paper you'd be out of luck. If you had a few ounces of silver you could trade them for the cans of soup. Then that person could trade someone else the silver for some other stuff they needed. Bartering can be impractical sometimes. Watch all the episode of Hidden Secrets of Money by mike maloney on yt. It'll make sense.

Just think of a 2nd great depression, or Zimbabwean levels of inflation. Financial systems can collapse, but gold/silver's price is fairly steady. It's more likely that a collapse leads to a restructuring of financial systems that favor gold/silver than a permanent mad max scenario. This is just my opinion though. I also like collecting coins because they are cool, shiny, and tangible.

That being said i need to stock up again as the only casings im really sitting on are a metric fuckton of .45lc, 20ga, 16ga, and a fair handful of 12ga. Have less than 300 of my other calibers ; ; why the fuck did i have to be broke last year and why the fuck did i have to be lazy in 2019.

I have no idea about silver, but apparently inflation is so bad that you need to use a credit/debit card to buy anything, and most vendors accept these. Almost everybody has a relative working outside of Venezuela sending them money. Funnily enough. >Amassing as much Lead & Shotgun Primers & shot cups as possible are your main play
Black powder is cheap af in the market, its easy to stockpile massive amounts, it lasts forever if kept dry.
Gun ranges will let you collect used shotgun & other bullet casings for free, they will appreciate you picking them up for them. You can resue these is in good condition by replacing the primer in a pinch.
Buy a reloader kit for your various owned firearms, shotgun will be best bet & most profitable in a SHTF scenario
>Bonus for over achievers that want to save money on rounds everyday
Buy a Russian shotgun slug & shot mold, a metal smelting funnel & a shell crimper.
(you can use the mold to make steel shot/slugs out of scrap in a pinch for super cheap rounds if you don't want to use lead)

Its cheaper to make & reload slugs/round yourself, only thing relatively expensive are primers but they can be bought in bulk to mitigate price per round

I just don't get why metals are precious in this regard. They're very condensed value, which is good for barter, but ammo will be just as value-dense.
I guess one thing that separates metals are their commodity status--1 oz of silver is 1 oz of silver, while 9mm steel-case =/= good 5.56, but at the same time 90% silver =/= 99.9% =/= 99.999%. And for laymen it's hard to test metal purity.

lol im already a realoader and caster. My main issue is that i dont have a ton of dies and have very limited casting molds. Got like 3 shotgun presses, dies for every shot size, and a lubrisizer though. Still sitting on like 20lbs of greendot i bought when gander went out of business and i gotta say that shit is amazing. Its a shotgun powder but you can load pistols with it and even short range rifle loads.

>only thing relatively expensive are primers but they can be bought in bulk to mitigate price per round
the problem is right now they are legitimately unobtanium. CCI and whatever their group is called is backordered for the next 18-24 MONTHS. The only problem with the reloader market is we pretty much get the scraps from the adult table. Considering ammo can't be kept on the shelf anywhere, the market for powder and primers has fucking shot way past the moon. You used to be able to get 1k/$34. Now its like 1k/$400 if you can even find someone willing to sell. Powders have gone wild too. H4350 used to be like $24/lb. Now if you can find it its about $100. I'm lucky and found a euro rifle powder that no one really knew about or had load data for and it was still in stock last i checked. I got 2 kilos of it. It arrives this week (after ordering it jan 2nd). Going to try a few test loads to prove my theory correct, but if it pans out you bet your ass im buying 2-4kilos more.

>pic is the shelves at my local cabellas last month for reloading supplies. Ammo shelves were the same.
i imagine the warehouses at JM/APMEX/etc look similar.

because if you have firewood and I have eggs but I want lettuce and you want eggs, what are you going to do when the lettuce man doesn't want eggs but wants your firewood? You don't want lettuce. So you trade him for lettuce so you can trade me for eggs. It would be simpler to have a standard commodity where we trade things based on that. This is how money came to be. The SHTF currency is just actual currency. The dollar used to be backed by gold.

If you have enough ammunition/reloading supplies for a lifetime, why not barter the rest? If you're truly devious, you can wait for ammunition supplies to dwindle and barter it at high prices.

Why not just use ammunition as currency? It meets the requirements for good money just as much as silver/gold coins.

To clarify, the only "bad" thing about ammo as money is that it's not extremely fungible. But neither are coins, which vary greatly in purity and quality. Look how the Romans fucked with gold/silver.

Just because the people here see the value in holding physical silver and gold doesn't mean they don't also hold conventional assets.

Metals aren't perfect money because they're not 100% fungible. It's a burden to have to verify the silver content of coins every time you want to buy a dozen eggs. 90% silver =/= 40% =/= 99%, etc., just as 9mm =/= 5.56.

But it also allows JP Morgan to see what the market is doing and accommodate accordingly because they have the playbook of the current silver market by the average investor. silver shot is a thing. theres a reason why everyone had scales in antiquity. On top of that whatever the step down currency from silver will be (copper, bottlecaps, hentai mags, w/e) you will be able to trade an ozt for whatever the equivalent amount is.
